I'm pretty sure the person who suggested that was doing his best Cold impersonation. Not serious. Although one dweeb (I know, that doesn't narrow it down much when referring to CU fans) picked up on it.

I find the post @vancedave56: quoted interesting. Does he really want competitive hoops in Nebraska? That would suck half their fanbase to the other side, no?

Figure if they didn't play us they wouldn't have to read his stuff ever again. Most said we were about the only team that made sense playing from the MVC if they were to schedule a team from here. I never read anything about a 2 for 1 from them. KC was mentioned as a potential neutral court game.
I would love to see an annual game played in Kansas City. I think it would be great for both programs.

-Private schools which are primarily small in enrollment.
-Typically smaller alumni bases due to above.
-Athletic programs that aren't even the #1 story in their town, much less state.
-A list of member schools that is mostly forgettable and low profile to the majority of US sports fans.

Obviously the above list does not apply hard and fast to all prospective new BE members, but I'm just not seeing it.

My personal opinion is that the select few, bigger name schools in the new BE are going to be weighted down by the majority of remaining institutions, NOT the other way around. Simple law of averages. Most of the new BE institutions carry no cache outside of the snob-ridden, Jesuit system wherein enjoying the scent of one's own flatus is considered a treasured pastime.
I have a problem with the idea that the old Big East (whatever they're going to call it) will be a major conference, especially in football. For basketball, after Louisville leaves it will have some respectability due to UConn, Memphis and Cincy, but beyond that it's pretty weak. After the BCS system goes away and the media can't use that label anymore, look for this conference to fall off the map.

The new Big East has some teams with a lot of historical and recent success--Marquette, Gtown, Nova, plus Xavier and Butler. Definitely a powerhouse basketball conference. And small enrollments don't necessarily equate to small resources.

Good. Gives us some breathing room. We have a year to convince the MWC they want an even number of basketball teams and that midwestern teams aren't a bad idea.

The writer of the a story is said to have told someone that Dayton is the 12 th teaam in, not the 10th. The Dayton AD calls it speculation.

Dayton AD basically says that he can't confirm the NY Post story and was Speculation.

You can put as much lipstick on this pig (New Big East) as you want. The bottom line is to be a major conference you need to play major football.
That is why the real football schools all left the Big East. It was about to lose it's BCS status in football anyway. Uconn is still trying to get out.

Why should Wichita State care if the Scott Trade Center gets sold out during Arch Madness, or if the Valley gets other teams to the NCAA? We don't, but obviously the MVC does. We can schedule to make up for Creighton's absence, but we can't bring 5,000 more fans to Saint Louis or make Evansville or Missouri State into NCAA quality teams.
That's a very short sighted view. Wichita State cares about the MVC tournament being sold out because it's our conference and our tournament on national television. And a sold out conference tournament looks a whole lot better to television networks, advertisers, college basketball fans, and potential recruits, than a NOT sold out conference tournament!

Wichita State cares about other MVC teams getting NCAA bids because that indicates the MVC is not a one-trick-pony. That indicates the MVC is a good conference. A tough conference. A great conference with great teams that win all of thier OOC games and go into conference play as the number one conference in the country. CAN YOU SAY VALLEY OF DEATH? When WSU wins that MVC conference it will mean we are the best of the best! That means WSU gets a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, which means even better recruits, which means even more wins, which means even more fan support, which means even more donations to the university.

I can't believe this has to be explained to anyone.

And yes we can bring 5,000 thousand more fans to Saint Louis. And we can make the other MVC teams, including Eville and MSU, NCAA quality teams. They have athletic teams because they want to compete and win. They want to win the MVC and get an NCAA bid. They DO NOT want to lose to WSU. As we keep getting better, and since they want to beat WSU, they have no choice but to also get better. As they get better, they attract more fans, and some of those fans will follow them to the MVC Tournament. And when those teams get good enough, they will receive NCAA bids. So all thanks to WSU, MVC Tournament attendance increases and more MVC teams receive NCAA Tournament bids.

And who is this WE, when you state "we don't care". Because WSU fans obviously do care. As is evidenced buy all the large threads regarding conference realignment. The thrust of which is; WSU must get out of the MVC because the other teams are not good enough and that is hurting WSU. You wouldn't see those threads if the MVC was one of the top three or four conferences every season and was getting four or five NCAA bids and as a result had a big television contract that paid WSU 3,000,000 bucks a season. And I would bet WSU's President, AD, and Head Coach also care. In fact, I'd be willing to bet, if you called HC3G's radio show and asked him; Is it better for his Basketball program if the MVC gets one NCAA bid or four NCAA bids? I think his answer would be something along the lines of; Four bids, and hopefully we're one of them. A rising tide lifts all boats.

A true WSU fan would want nothing less.

                              Withdraw soapbox.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

Great post, RIP. Far too many choose to ignore the fact that like individuals, the Shockers are judged by the company we play. Once (or twice in conference play) we beat them, we want every team we play (no matter how much we dislike them or hate their skinking guts) to win. Even CU.
