I know the popular opinion around here is that Greg slighted his own son somehow, but he protected him more than anything -- if you just look at it with an unbiased lens.
The order of events were:
1) Greg hires on at Iowa State for 2006/2007 season.
2) Greg has 3 bad years. He's not in a dire situation, but it's not a good one either.
3) Nov 2009 - Doug signs an NLI with Northern Iowa -- he either signs soon or risks losing a scholarship at a good university. He honestly intends to go to Northern Iowa. He could go to Iowa State, but why would his dad want that? They suck and his coaching position is iffy. Northern Iowa are conference champs, tournament champs, and coming off an NCAA run.
4) Greg completes 4th year 2009/2010 at Iowa State.
5) April 2010 - Altman resigns.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

Iowa State hadn't been to an NCAA tourney since 2005 and they were sucking badly in 2009 -- the situation for Greg wasn't dire, but wasn't great.

That is just my guess. Who knows but the idiots throwing out the balls?

Now if getting a mini-ball is a real big deal to anyone you should come to the women's games. Your chances are about 20 times better of snagging one of those trophies.
I have nabbed a few at the women's games although I usually search out a kid attending the game to give the ball to. Need to build the Shocker fan base of the future you know. Plus the smile and look on a kid's face when you give them a ball is priceless.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 21, 2013, 04:40 PM.

Instead of placing black tee shirts on each seat, maybe black mini-balls would have been better.
If the Shockers had a 20 point lead, then the fans could have expressed their displeasure at a ref's call by throwing the balls on the court.
Now that would be a big time hoot.
I remember when the band use to play "Three Blind Mice" at games to express displeasure with the refs. It was pretty common once upon a time, long, long ago. The refs started calling technical fouls on the band, so the song went away.
Also I remember when Wu would put on a blindfold or dark glasses and carry a cane. When the crowd was unhappy with a ref's call, Wu would wander onto the court, during a break in action. He would walk in an uncertain path and all the while with one arm out stretched, he would tap his cane on the floor. Alas, the powers put a stop to it.
I miss those days. It was fun. Sometimes, I think our student section lacks creativity.
