If you were the coach hired to replace a guy who is fired, are you seriously not going to grant the former coach's son a release?

"Not real happy" is a bit of an understatement. Go read their board. Not only are they in a perpetual 3 year meltdown, Doug's betrayal cost them at minimum 3 total Valley Championships (reg & post) and $5-10 million.

I think he might have verballed to Northern Iowa.

I am sure McD's situatino at Iowa State played into it too
Doug was a high value recruit coming out of high school. The obvious concern was his athleticism but he was a guy with options.

Pin, some people take offense due to personal experiences at things that others don't find unacceptable at all.

I understand you didn't like it while most on this board found it funny. I'm cool with that.

I remember one time Missouri fans threw bananas at a KU player because they thought he resembled an ape. Now that was bad.

So that is what they are mad about? I thought it was losing a recruiting battle to us for Jake White.

You obviously haven't watched many Cu games this year. Dougie gets that yelled at him (and/or signs that say that) everywhere he plays. It is college basketball, it was a student chant, lighten up.

Fair enough. I thought it was harmless trash talk (that actually worked) but it all depends on your perspective.

Yea, you're right, cause if he didn't theatrically stare down an assistant coach in front of 10,505 fans we would have lost the game for sure.

I'm sure it's fine and as Doc said they've seen it before.
I see it every game. It's part of his character. At first I thought he was yelling at the coach that always has the scout, but I figured out it's pretty much equal opportunity venting. A guy as emotional and unfiltered as HCGM, you must take the good with the bad. At nearly 50 years old, I don't think he is going to change.

The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Why would you risk it? He'd be forced to sit a year if the AD doesn't go along with it.

Why did UNI go along with it? He made a commitment there and they had even less reason to let him out of it than a Big XII school would have. I would think getting a waiver for the year would be a lot easier if the school you were at just fired your dad than leaving to go play for your dad, especially when there wasn't any changes at the school you committed to.

Creighton agreed to play them twice a year on a home and home basis. You know how shrewd those UNI guys are.

                            • Gred McDermott recommended Jacobsen for the job when he left for Iowa State, then steered his kid to UNI because he thought it was a better fit than Iowa State talent-wise. This took place well before the writing was on the wall that he was going to get fired.

UNI releasing Doug was a class move and anything else would have been pretty douchey. They were simply unlucky that Dana picked that season to finally bolt and Creighton swung and missed on their first two replacement candidates for the job.

                              • How about a shout out to the Shocker softball team who filled in for the Cheer squard who were in Orlando, FL at the UCA National Championships.

The Softball team did double duty as they filled in at both the men's game and the women's game and they brought a lot of energy to the floor in both cases. If nothing else there were more souvenir balls making it to the upper bowl then normal.

Would love to see Coach KB and the Lady Shocks softball team start to show some progress this year.

                                Thanks Ladies.

                                :good:
