  • I was afraid to watch the game on tv as everytime I watch it they seem to not do so well. I watched about the last 5 mins of the first half and said I can't curse them anymore.

I caught myself checking my espn ap on my phone while detailing my wife's car and finally with about a minute left I flipped it on and watched them go balls out and win the game and the crowd go crazy. It looked like people actually listened to the blackout that was asked for!!

Great win, great game and should open more eye's and doors for Wichita state and recruiting again.

Not today, though, even though our pieces couldn't shoot. As others have noted, if just Hall shoots something resembling his normal FT percentage the last two minutes -- no other changes, just that one -- the ending isn't nearly as nerve-wracking.

      • One other thought that occurred to me after watching the replay -- and I apologize if someone else has already raised this; I'm not going back through the whole thread to find out -- I was disappointed in Early's passivity on offense late in the game. One of the ESPN guys commented that Cle kept calling for the ball and not getting it, but it's one thing to call for the ball and another to GET YOURSELF OPEN. Larry Bird on his best day wasn't half the athlete Cle is, but he made himself almost impossible to guard by simply never stopping. (Nor is McDermott remotely comparable as an athlete, but he keeps working working working to get free.) I love Early, and it isn't pleasant to think where WSU would be without him and his continuing development -- but he wasn't making himself that hard to guard late in the game. And Dougie was still out there having to keep an eye on somebody, which is generally about the extent of his defense: he's a good watcher. So why was Cle not more aggressive?

By the way, speaking of the ESPN crew, I thought they were extremely complimentary toward WSU. They took the game seriously as a big-time national game on a big-time home court, and they were hugely impressed by Marshall and the job he's been able to do with last year's top five scorers missing plus two of this year's starters (and one just two games back from a broken thumb). They were also mightily impressed with Hall, and with Cotton's defense, even on his 0-fer shooting day -- something about how winners don't just score points. I'd be delighted to hear those two call a Shocker game anytime.

          • Im not sure how many times I have flipped on sportscenter since the game ended and have not seen any highlights on it.
They ignore WSU and the fact that Creighton was what #12? they would rather show #24 ucla or NHL crap

            • Went back and looked at the replay at the end of the first half. Can someone tell me how the shot clock vs the play clock work together?

At one point, I was able to stop the play and it showed 20.8 on the play clock and 12 on the shot clock. How does CU get the ball with 10.1 showing on the play clock on a ball out of bounds on them?

Thankfully, it makes no difference now, but at the time, I thought the refs blew it and it hurt the Shocks.

                  • Yea there was something definitely something strange with the shot clock violation there. I didn't like it. Not to mention Tekele came off of McDermott.

Early was posting up hard and getting a seal but nobody was looking at him. It was irritating me. I sometimes think DWill is allergic to passing into the post.

The first stocking of the year is the incentive stocking. A few of the trout are up to 4 Lbs. 20% are 13 to 16 inches. Life is good, especially for a Shockers fan!!!!

Really funny when a Gonzaga player was near where all the Butler players were at midcourt and he got sucked into a giant dogpile of the entire team and student section who ran out there, I don't know how long it took him to get out.
