Key stats in the game: 23-5 and 11-6. The first is WichitaState's advantage in second-chance points, second is edge in points off TOs
Watched the game on ESPN2 and the crowd was great, the pan back views of the arena was spectacular. During half time i believe Blias said that if Creighton looses they should not fall but one or two spots in the rankings because there is nothing Mid-Major about the two teams and WSU is that good with Hall on the floor. Way to represent Shocker fans.
I have read the somewhat less then credit given to Dougie on this board lately. Lets all get a reality check on this great player. He has improved on both ends of the floor. He make guarded shots look easy. He is BY FAR the best player in the conference and don't be surprised if he is the Naismith POY. I haven't seen a MVC player like him since Hawkins, X, AC, Cliff.
He's a nice offensive player and he made some great shots, but the best player in the country doesn't get taken out with 25 seconds left for offense/defense.

The top players in the country usually play 35 minutes in their most important game of the season.
Koch, the the crowd, and the 'blackout' looked tremendous on TV. And they kept panning in on the student section which was great. Numerous favorable comments about how tough it is to win a home game against the Shocks and what amazing fans we have.
All of you who attended the game did the school and the team proud. The comment was made early on in the game that if we beat CU, we would have two very key wins (VCU and CU) and they did not see how we could be kept out of the NCAA tournament.
Sorry, can't remember the names of the ESPN guys who called the game. I personally was pleased overall with the job they did. They were exceptionally high on Cotton and keyed on his guarding of Doug. Several times he was all over DM and countered every single move he made. One stated that Cotton should strongly be considered for player of the game and noted he was giving up 5 inches.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: WICHITA STATE 67, CREIGHTON 64
4. Carl Hall - if for some reason you were unaware - is a beast. He had 17 points and 13 boards vs the Jays which is his 5th double-double of the year (in 12 games). Six of his rebounds were offensive, which should be no surprise as he is the best offensive rebounder in the MVC, grabbing 14.5% of his team's misses.
Congrats on the win, great college hoops game! Refs didn't determine the game, hard fought by both teams. It sucked that our game was up against #6 vs #1 on ESPN and it was also a battle so therefore only MVC fans were tuned into WSU/CU.
The only negative thing I will say is that the "shocker" symbol quit being funny in about 2006, but I'm sure you all have had your own debate on that one.
Hopefully we take the one in Omaha and we have the rubber match in STL with both teams not only getting bids but 5 or better seed.
I got to the game at about 12:30, and I could feel from the start a special energy. You could tell it was going to be a great game and, of course, it was.
I'm not sure if last year's team would win a game like this. This team has a certain toughness, they really don't fear anything. Everyone was talking about this being a rebuilding year.. players don't come to "rebuild", they come to win. Malcolm didn't come here for his senior year just to have a decent season, he came to win games in the big dance and accomplish big things. IMO, the toughness starts with him. Two clutch free throws at the end, the clutch shot against VCU, clutch free throws against Bradley, etc. He is the epitome of tough.
I think you guys should have started Lufile, but that's just me.
Thanks for your sentiments, I think. We were so glad we had Carl Hall back for this game because your Jays are tough, Doug deserves the credit he gets, and you are ranked high, and rightly so.. Here is a random thought for ya for some perspective. What if Doug M. and 2 more of your starters missed multiple games? What do you think your record would be about now? Welcome to our world.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
Yes, he is good. If he had played like he does THIS year in his two previous years then I'd get the hype. But he has improved this year which means he wasn't as knob slobbering good as he was made out to be. So I am sick of the hype. Also, he plays zero D. That is why his foul count is so low. His lack of D is why we smoked them in Omaha last year and why we got so many drives in today. Note that scum had two foul out because they tried to help dougie.
But tonight he had one uncontested shot - his 3 at the end of the first half. The rest of his shots were contested and he just made them. So I'll give him credit for that and no more.
My admiration for Dougie has no qualfications, no limitations, no reluctance, no exceptions, no lucky conditions. None of that.
He is just a stud duck, scoring machine.
The Blue Bird fans do not like to hear me describe the Blue Birds as a one man team, but that is exactly what they are. If Dougie goes down, the Blue Birds are in deep do-do.
