I didn't know you could do it. Maybe some things have changed or were just overlooked.

      Starting in 2016 KU's will change to 3.0 and a 24 ACT or a 3.25 with a 21.

Really disappointing. I still like the chant though. Recorded the game tonight and ran through it when I got back back home from the game. Just by chance the network caught the chant and it sounded great. However, the television crew was right on top of the band. When it comes to crowd unity, why do we only have 3 things we do? Stand until the opponent scores and two cheers. Whoop-tie doo! The commentary announcers talked up the the Wichita home crowd as best they could. But when the camera panned around it wasn't to surprising to see a majority of people just sitting there. Kudos to the little girl who used her blow horn to make some noise! Man that carried forever on the televised game. Yah, as you guys might have guessed, I get fired up and want others to cheer as loud as I do.
Actually, I sit in Sec. 119 and I sang the cheer. I liked it. Certainly sounded like more than just the band in the past. It will grow - and, it is better than the K-State "Eat-em-up" variation that no one in the world knows what to say at the end.
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

        • Okay I normally don't cite Wiki but this has a pretty good summary of the "blow horn" in question:

When people realized what was happening during the second time the band sang it, they failed to put the words up on the board.

Now what we need to do is keep perfecting, bugging the athletic department, calling in to Bruce and Bob, the Gameplan, and anyone else that fans may be listening to.

OTOH, there are a bunch of near deads in the crowd that won't participate unless we threaten to withhold their social security checks. That and the "corporate, just want to be seen at the event" bunch drives me nuts.

            • You guys may find this difficult to believe, but there are many people who do not automatically stare at the overhead during breaks. I usually miss the beginning of the shell game -- just looking at coaches, players, cheerleaders or the shapely women going out to the concourse. It will take a bit of consistency of timing of the chant for people to become aware that it is something they should participate in.

              • Did the Cheer team sing it into the megaphones? They don't seem to use the phones and do cheers anymore with the student section. The phones help things to be heard all over the arena and I sit a long way up.

I didn't hear it until it was halfway thru. With all the marketing, there are some serious breaks in the game and I was visiting during the time it was going on.

I'm not so irritated by that when it's an absolute blowout. You'll see that just about anywhere. It's in the closer games that I don't understand that.

I can understand when there is inclement weather, but aside from that it is inexcusable.

                      • My wife sang it with me the second time in section 124, she thought it was good to be up on the video board or she would have had no clue what to yell. I think maybe doing it at the under 8 timeout each half would be a good way of adding consistency. This is a good thing that band has going, we just need to be patient and get more people involved. I particularly like the idea of the yell leaders using their megaphones. It seems our cheerleaders don't do much cheer leading. It's bad when the pep band is outdoing you.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

At hockey games in Philly in the 70s, a group of five of us used to scream at those leaving with 5 minutes left, "Where did you buy your ticket for half a game"?

It has nothing to do with the weather - or, the score for the early departers. It is in their mindset to "beat the crowd" and most are older or elderly. I have to admit, there is a lot of jostling in the concourse after the game. Not defending it - we stay to the close of every game no matter what. Just watch the exodus sometime - all hinges on time-outs. First small group at 6 minutes, quite a few at 4 to 5, and a LOT at 3 minutes. Used to piss me off, but I have better things to whine about - like people who paid for (or, at least sit in) zillion dollar seats at the floor table who never clap, stand, yell, react, or even have pupil dilation. I really don't undertand why they even come to the games. How can someone watch a a steal and pass for a thunderous dunk 12 feet from you and you don't even react. OMG!

                              • It's having your butt in the seat and cheering your lungs out until the game is decided that matters. HCGM didn't give a whiff about anyone leaving last night with four minutes to go, as I did, because it was a work night and I had things to do before Monday morning. Since this thread is all over the map, what about people coming to Shocker games, to cheer for the Shox, wearing KState and KU garb? That drives me insane. Why would you do it? And finally, the war chant. Why does a student body of a place of higher learning want to yell such an inane, stereotypical, thug type diatribe? Makes zero sense when there are so many really good things a group of smart kids could come up with!
