War Chant

I like the big cards idea, CBB. My idea would be get the first half printed on one side ("You don't want...") and the second half on the other ("Don't start..."). Make 4 of them. Give them to 4 band members (woodwinds, probably), and have them go stand in the middle of different parts of the student section and lead the cheer. Do this for 3 games and then pass the cards to the cheerleaders or some of the crazy student fans.

Is there a facebook page for the student cheering section? If not, I would imagine one of you students could fire one up and quickly get a decent following.

Friends, do not steal chants from other university fanbases. If you want to implement some new chants, start with common ones that are utilized by a lot of places.. generic ones if you will.

If you are going to put together something creative.. do your homework!


I thought up a school-specific taunt.

The following chants always get the whole building going. They are simple and should be used often.

Let's Go Shockers (clap clap clap clap clap)

Here we go Shockers, here we go (clap clap)

De--fense (clap clap)

Defense Shockers Defense (clap clap)


I would like to see the students chant THIS.. IS.. OUR.. HOUSE.. or NOT.. IN.. OUR.. HOUSE.. regularly when a game is well in hand.


I think a Goooooo (rising in pitch) --Shock--ers.. Gooooo Shock--ers.. Goooooo Shock--ers would be pretty cool alternating between the left and right side of the student section.

A lot of schools say _ _ _ _ _ Power ... So it could be Shock-er Pow-er back and forth between the two student sections. Since many people equate "Shocker" with electricity, it might be kind of catchy.

Cold, a lot of chants and cheers start from one school and quickly become used in lots of others. San Diego State stole the "I believe we will win" cheer from Utah State and now the university itself has adopted it as a motto. You just demonstrated the Shocker Power chant as a form of imitating. OSU uses Orange Power. Besides, the band was the ones that started the War Chant. I don't think you can stop it now. Might as well join in... or talk with the band instructor.

Thanks for kawwsu for starting the thread. Hopefully, it spreads quickly and somebody can move these ideas from this board to another social media outlet, or better yet, in writing at the GAMES!!!! Your nationally ranked men/coaches deserve it!

Kellen Winslow II wanted me to pass this on to SN. For those who don't know, Kellen received negative media and public backlash after making comments to reporters in a postgame interview. Here is a brief summary of what transpired that day, "It's a war out there! They're out there to kill you, so I'm out there to kill them. We don't care about anybody but this U. They're going after my legs. I'm going to come right back at them. I'm a [expletive] soldier." Comparing himself to a soldier drew national attention and Kellen quickly issued a statement "After speaking with the press, I immediately regretted my comments and felt embarrassed for my family, my team, the University of Miami, our fans, alumni and myself, "What I have learned from this experience is to take my triumphs and failures in stride. My outburst should in no shape or form be a reflection on this institution or the Miami football program. As for my reference to being a soldier in a war, I meant no disrespect to the men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in the armed forces. I cannot begin to imagine the magnitude of war or its consequences."

It's not individualized to them at all. Lots of places use it. The saints, the redskins, a&t (from the movie drumline) has a solid version on YouTube... It's not like we're trying to make it our signature. It's a good starting place to get our fans to be a little more creative. De-fense and let's go shockers... Those will always be done and have always been done. I think the point here is we should spice it up a bit... Zombie nation, 7 nation army two songs that sound awesome when large crowds chant them... We had some success with we're not gonna take it during the nit year, too bad it didn't carry over now that we've started getting some respect. Ear splitting noise is great and Koch is unbelievable for it... At times... We need more ways to fill the voids

Always thought the cheer squad would easily be able to make chant cards to hold up for the crowd to figure it out ,since the words are so short WE ,,, WILL ,,, WE ,,,, WILL .... SHOCK YOU

Well i also like the idea of following it up with the Warriors come out to Play taunt from the "Warriors" movie ,, only inserting the opposing teams mascot as instead of "Warriors" as in Bluejay's come out and Play yay FWIW
