I'm just glad this happened now instead of March.

    • We don't need to be ranked to win the MVC tournament. That's what I really want this team to achieve.

I'd rather be conference champions if I had a choice of just one.

I think conference champs is more meaningful.

What I really want, is to be the team that catches fire and carries it into the postseason. So, I'm not too broken up about the last 2 games, because it is still early February.

          • Winning the State Farm Welfare Invitational is about 1/3 as impressive as winning the conference championship. There are about 5 teams every year that have a realistic shot at winning the Welfare tournament over a weekend. That does not compare to the effort and execution required to win the season race over nearly a 4 month period.

              • Over the last few weeks, I predicated the following AP Poll defeats:
                Week 12-predicited 22, actual 26
                Week 13-predicited 20, actual 25
                Week 14-predictied 22, actual ??

For this week (02/04/13 thru 02/10/13) I predict the following:
Ranked 01-10 there will be 4 losses
Ranked 11-20 there will be 5 losses
Ranked 21-43 there will be 13 losses

Also, let’s take a look at the weekly rankings to see if there has been much change over the last few months:
                Pre-season-54 teams received votes
                Week 02-49 teams
                Week 03-45 teams
                Week 04-46 teams
                Week 05-43 teams
                Week 06-39 teams
                Week 07-37 teams
                Week 08-35 teams
                Week 09-36 teams
                Week 10-36 teams
                Week 11-39 teams
                Week 12-39 teams
                Week 13-41 teams
                Week 14-43 teams
                Week 15-?? teams

                  • The Shockers are currently 3-4 when playing as a ranked team this season, with only one of those wins over a team with a winning record.

                    16-0 when unranked.

Do we really even want this team to be ranked? I don't know if "playing with expectations" is a valid excuse, or if the ranking makes our opponents play that much harder ... but when Bradley is the crown jewel of our play as a ranked team, I'm scared seeing a number next to us at the moment.

That's interesting. Early in the season it was easier to get ranked in the AP poll and we had a hard time getting any type of recognition by the coaches. Now they like us more than the AP.

                      • #NR - Oklahoma lost at Iowa State

Note: Oklahoma (14-7) has a great profile with an RPI of #22 and SOS of #9, but they just don't have any great wins and have had numerous opportunities to do so.

                        • #25 - Notre Dame lost at #9 - Syracuse

Note: Just what was expected. now about 9 more losses with teams just ahead and behind the WSU Shockers, plus two WSU wins this week and we'll just see what happens.

Agree. At this point, I don't want to see WSU ranked again until after the national championship game. That should make us the top ranked team in the nation.

You'd rather play well than play poorly. You'd rather be ranked than not ranked. Generally palying well and being ranked go hand in hand and playing poorly and not being ranked go hand in hand.

To say you don't want to be ranked is to say you want the team to play poorly. That is not a great formula for getting into the NCAA Tournament.
