  • I watched Gonzaga play a game of horse against Loyola Marymount last night. They made every shot they took, it seemed. Those guys are really good and will give teams fits in the Dance.

    • AP Ranked teams who have lost this week (01/31/13):
#09 - Butler lost at Saint Louis
#10 - Oregon lost at Stanford
#15 - Wichita State lost at home to Indiana State
#16 - Mississippi lost at home to Kentucky
#17 - Missouri lost at LSU
#19 - North Carolina State lost at Virginia
#28 - Wisconsin lost at Ohio State
#29 - UCLA lost at home to USC
#32 - Pittsburgh lost at Louisville
#34 - Villanova lost at Notre Dame
#35 – Baylor lost at home to Oklahoma
#36 - Iowa State lost at Oklahoma State
#39 – La Salle lost at home to Massachusetts

Half way through the week we already have 13 teams, who received votes in the last AP Poll, lose this week. My predictions for the whole week were:

      Ranked
01 - 10 with 5 losses, we now have 2. I think there will be 1 more tomorrow
11 - 20 with 5 losses, we now have 4. I think there will be 3 more tomorrow.
21 - 41 with 10 losses, we now have 7. I think there will be 6 more tomorrow.

Saturday will be a big day for the Shockers and a lot at stake. National TV game on ESPN, final opportunity to impress the bracketbuster selection committee, white-out in Cedar Falls, chance to stop the one-game losing streak, etc.

I remember the days back in the 90s when there were only three, maybe four teams that you knew were going to be ranked in the top three/four all year long. They were dominant due to having future NBA all-stars that were juniors and seniors. The gap between 1 and 25 was probably about the same as the gap between 1 and 40 or 50 now. So much parity and very little dominance. And I love it. It's made the game more interesting and exciting, at least in my opinion. Now, imagine if D1 hadn't gotten so watered down and still had less than 300 teams? That would be cool.

        • #6 - Syracuse lost at #32 - Pittsburgh

Note: Look for the Orangemen to drop out of the top ten and for pittsburgh to make the top 25 on Monday.

          • #22 - San Diego State lost at Air Force

Note: This helps WSU in three ways. Improves Air Force's RPI, makes our strength-of schedule better, keeps those ranked behind us from creeping up on us this week. Onward and Upward--GO AIRFORCE!!!

            • So Reaper, what do you think; will this week's results knock us out of the polls?

We will be about number 32, if my gut is correct. Looking like **** against Indiana State, then following it up by looking like **** on national TV against a pretty bad UNI squad means we are in the receiving votes category (one more and that is gone as well).

No, realistic. If we had looked good or had even a little preseason hype, we wouldn't fall so far. But we have looked HORRIBLE. Not top 25 quality.

It is sure looking that way.

                        • I don't care what anyone else is saying, I say we stay at the tail end of the top 25. However, if we lose a couple more games (and it looks like we will down the stretch), I don't see us as a top 25 team, more like a 'lurker' top 25 team.

You are a lot more positive than my thinking. I don't think there is a snow ball chance, especially if any of the pollster were watching the game.

                              • My guess is also around 30. Honestly I don't really care about the ranking at this point, only about the results which produced it. I think we have been ranked fairly all season long except that I thought we deserved to be in the top 25 after beating Southern Miss. I want this team to have a chip on their shoulder and dropping out of the rankings might be one more swift kick in that direction.

With that said the timing of having three very winnable games right now is good. We need to gain some confidence before the last very difficult stretch.
