I still remember the Shocker Madness scrimmage where Green picked Nick clean twice and gave him all sorts of problems. I am waiting to see how well Nick handles the ball against VCU before making any further comments on this.

There was a 2-on-1 break and Wiggins had the ball. Early was uncontested going to the hoop. Wiggins was guarded. Wiggins didn't pass to Early. Wiggins did beat his defender and got the bucket.

Shortly after that there was a foul on the Shox. During the foul shots Marshall called Wiggins and Early over in front of the bench. Marshall spent most of the time talking to Wiggins and I could see the veins in Marshall's neck from row 11. Wiggins received some "coaching". Wiggins put up some great stats in his time in the game, but he was pretty much calling his own number and not playing Marshall's style of ball.

I'm thinking Wiggins could end up with a bit of the "Durley syndrome". Wiggins can put up so many points so fast that he can't be kept off the court very much, even though he may not be exactly playing the system or nailing all the practice drills.

It's a gift from the basketball gods when your team has a player on it that can truly create his own shot and finish it. They are the most difficult to guard and lethal as all get out. They drive strict coaches nuts early in their career, but once the coach realizes what he has and adjusts his system look out (and a good coach WILL adjust his system as the confidence in the shooter goes through the roof). The Valley doesn't get to see many of those guys, and those guys end up in the NBA. And don't tell me about defense -- defensive skills aren't required in the NBA. ;)

I remember that exact play. With proper timing, Early could have gotten a monster slam (and looked like he expected it). However, he will get minutes if he produces like this (4-4, 13 points in 14 minutes).

It's comforting to know that Wessel did it too, but within the Marshall system. I guess that's why he started. Wessel will force wiggins to learn his role with Marshall sooner than he would have. This team is going to be good at the 3 spot...and everywhere else...sooner than later

One thing I noticed in the Exhibition game was that on drives, both Wiggins and Early did a lot of dipsy-do movements and I found myself screaming, learn to use your left hand and make the easy bucket.

                    Ha! Amateur.

I could see not only the veins in Marshall's neck from Row 24, I could hear the scolding Lynn Marshall was giving Wiggins from Row 6.

I don't think the fact that Nick and Cle are not finished products at this point is a particularly big surprise. I like the potential I see. You don't want to totally squeeze the life out of your thoroughbreds. Sometimes you just have to let 'em run. Just need to find the right balance and I think they will.

I will say this for Nick. The improvement he made between Shocker Madness and Pitt State was a good sign.

Cle kind of went the other way, but I'm not concerned the least about it. I thought Cle was rushing his game and perhaps just trying too hard. I don't see that as a long-term problem. Too much talent in that athletic body.

You better tell LeBron James not to attempt to switch to the sky hook.

Wiggins is having some "Marshall moments". I doubt he's having them with either the frequency or intensity as Durley had. I generally don't count on much from a JuCo trfr until the seond half of their first season. Hall was an exception, and it appears Early will be an exception. I expect it will take Wiggins that long to learn how to adapt to his role at WSU. I don't think for a moment that Marshall regrets having recruited him. I suspect he may always be a bit of a loose cannon, but that is one fast and deadly accurate cannon.

Early may have felt too much pressure and had a bit of the yips playing in front of a big crowd. He's the highly touted recruit. The National JuCo PoY, and I bet he thought the crowd had high expectations for him. That can lead to a poor performance. I have no doubt he will adjust and will be seeing the game and not the crowd well before conference play starts.

I'm not concerned about Wiggins or Early. What they're realizing is what we should expect. In terms of discussing who starts the next game, nitpicking some problems they had in the one game they've played is a legitimate exercise, but doesn't really have any meaning past the next game. I think we'll see the same starters in the first real game that we saw in the exhibition.

Well said @Aargh:. I have no doubt that Wiggins will be an important part of this team. I think it will take him some time to get there.

I think Nick W is in line for the honorary David Kyles position; in and out of the Marshall doghouse. Doesn't mean he won't be a contributor. I loved David Kyles. Nick will get some bench time for non-Marshall approved plays. On the other hand, even though his shooting was bad, I felt Cleanthony was clearly trying to fit into the team concept. I don't have any doubt that his shooting Monday was the exception rather than the rule.

Still not sure how we scored 100 on Monday. It was like the whole team had a Tekele Cotton performance; nothing flashy but the score kept going in the right direction.

i think some of you are getting way ahead of yourselves. Nick played one exhibition game. He'll be fine, it just may take a half season to figure out all the little things coach is looking for. Afterall he did score 13 pts in 14 minutes, something CE wasn't able to do.
