Kind of apples and oranges to compare these two. Paul Mills brother is not the president of the NBA G league.

edit: that’s not to say that the overall premise is wrong just that if this is an apples to apples comparison, then one of them has been heavily modified with GMO‘s.

Lol.... If we are going that far down the path .. there is literally never going to be an "apple to apples" comparison. USF has made the tournament 3 times .. in it's entire existence ... only 1 time since the kids they are recruiting have been alive. But sure ... USF has a recruiting advantage.

AAR is also basically making the same salary as HCPM...

And yet...that much better than us (record wise) and they are only 20 spots higher or so than us on Kenpom.

Sometimes its a product of your schedule.

I honestly feel that gauntlet we had was just too much for a 1st year coach and team. Probably killed any confidence they had. Now just putting more and more pressure on themselves and overthinking. Or just giving up. All of which would not equal wins.

I am not saying a weaker schedule would fix the problems with the system. It absolutely wouldn't. We would be talking about fools gold.

But on the flip side, too tough of a schedule can break a team. Especially one who wasn't all that strong to begin with. Winning is always better than losing. Especially for a 1st year coach and team.

I think that's a valid argument. South Florida's three worst losses (dragging their Kenpom rating down) were also all in November, so they have shown improvement. I don't think they're that much better than WSU, but the eye-test certainly favors them at the moment.

I primarily brought up South Florida because people keep making the argument that HCPM was behind the eight ball for recruiting, while I'd argue AAR has built a more talented roster for a program that is historically much worse than WSU.

are you freaking kidding me? Our defense BLOWS and Q is the only shining spot. He’s single handedly supporting us and erasing all of the awful mistakes that the guards make on defense.

That's fair also. Just a lot of ways to look at the current state.

This off season and next year will be the most telling IMHO. Guess we will just have to wait and see what Mills does unfortunately.

Alright so hear me out. There’s NO way Mills doesn’t know our defense sucks ass right now. So is it that there’s a possibility that a few of our players just don’t listen? We’ve seen this in games where the game plan is clearly to execute to get it to inside the paint with Ballard and Pohto rolling, but the guards don’t do it. Maybe they think they know more or better than Mills? If so, then that’s a major problem.

I’m obviously speculating heavily, but I just don’t believe that Mills thinks our defense is solid. I don’t believe that he hasn’t told the players either. So that only leaves more issue with the players themselves, in which case, he’s absolutely lost the locker room despite all that they say publicly and they all need to go.

Under the 3G system, we always had guys that "didn't get it". Those guys were obvious because they sat on the bench. When they got in they would screw up and get yanked out again. You can even think of Jalen Ricks and Isaac Abbide just last year rotting away on the pine. This year, all those guys are playing. It's just BBIQ, some guys figure it out and become effective players, some guys don't. We just don't have many that get it. I actually think Pohto is a smart player but he's surrounded with dummies which makes him look worse than he is.

I believe 3G had Shaq riding a stationary bike for a game for lack of effort. Does the athletic department have 8 bikes they could keep behind the bench?

Yeah, the fact Beverly even said that makes me think he’s gotta go on the chopping block. I think Roger’s is gone? He’s the only one I’d keep at this point tbh. Churn the rest and hunt better.

I’m going to be supremely disappointed if Mills doesn’t burn this roster to the ground and start fresh (with Ballard still involved if we can keep him)

This is actually from an efficiency standpoint the 2nd best defensive team he's ever had ... His team last year was barely better. His best year ever from a defense standpoint (last year) would be the 3rd worst defense for WSU since 1997
