If WSU still had the same fan support it did 5 years ago, then the NIL thing would have been a benefit to the school.

The part about the potential NIL benefit 5 years ago (presumably 2019) seems valid, but I would say that validity is either in a vacuum or solely relative to the other teams thought to be lesser by comparison. We want to have a fair shot against the so-called "power conference" teams that we regularly beat five years ago. You're right, we should still be beating the others regardless.

NIL didn't happen in a vacuum, however, it led to a series of things that the NCAA seemed to encourage. In the five years that followed, the "transfer portal" turned out to be more of a one-year revolving door, football money became even more dominant, and the "power conferences" started acting like the New York mafia carving up the city to ensure the exclusion of all others. So, by not being in a "power football conference," which gives access to broader exposure, far more revenue, and several months of additional donor visibility to boot, we are ostensibly fighting farther uphill than we should be.

My point was really to ask whether/how a mass exodus of support could possibly result in the improvement of that situation with where we are now.

So what isn’t translating right now for the Shockers? “That’s a good question,” Mills said. “Honestly, it’s not translating from head to heart. “I honestly thought that we would come out... our scouting report was good. I thought it was communicated. I thought they understood. I thought we practiced it. It just did not translate.”

          Zero accountability from Mills himself.

If I'm a recruit and I got a coach coming into my living room with a losing record, who then starts going on about his C.A.R.E. system? I'm getting up and taking a dump before he even gets his first sentence out.

He is damaged goods. No salvation. Who wants to play for him?
Same thing for ADKS. How's he going to collect that 7M bill that he says he so desperately needs. In all seriousness, what's his pitch line?

The only pitch line he's got is "Give me the money or the athletic department is bankrupt and we'll have to shut it down".
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I'm not really sure what Mills purportedly brought to the table that Brown didn't have. It's certainly not charisma. It's certainly not community involvement.
Abmas..........................and he didn't come. (A little tongue in cheek).

What does "compete successfully" mean? If it meant "win," why wasn't the word "win" put in the contract? So what does it mean to successfully compete? We've been competitive in several of our losses. The clause doesn't even specify that we need to be competitive in all of them. Just to compete successfully in the AAC. That could mean just one time.

I appreciate the spirit, but this is 100% a losing argument. Paul Loser Mills' contract is even worse for WSU than Brown's was. Had we waited until halfway through Brown's contract to let him go, we would have only owed him 50% of the remainder of his contract. For Mills? If we fire him halfway through (June 30, 2026), we still owe him 75% of the remainder.

This is just as much on Saal as it is everyone else. He let Paul Loser Mills pull the wool over him and sign him to this sweatheart contract that keeps this dumb loser employed for longer, or pays him a bigger parachute when the fraud is uncovered. What a rube. Kevin Sucker Saal and Paul Loser Mills are going to ruin this school.
This premise has been uttered before...

Mills might perhaps have had his own attorney as well right? Do you not think that Mill's attorney had a hand in how "poorly drafted" the contract ended up?

Mills was very aware he was entering a buzzsaw scenario at WSU. In fact, he came in staring at a buzzsaw freshly soiled with the giblets of one Isaac Brown. He knew we struck out on our other options. He wasn't coming to Wichita without a love letter of a contract.

Does Mills strike you as a ladder climbing shark? Hell, he'd probably be happy coaching at ORU for 30 years.

His attorney had us by the balls.

The attorney for the NEXT coach will end up owning the entire athletic department (including the buildings) if we aren't careful.

Our program is decimated and not all of it is "our" fault. We might even be lucky to have a Paul Mills considering the totality of our situation.......

I was underwhelmed with this hire but kept an open mind. It's clear now that he's not going to get the job done. Short of someone putting up about 10M for buyouts, and NIL, I don't think there's any good solution right now.
Can you do the same math with Gregg Marshall without Fred VanVleet just for fun?

I was thinking JUST at WSU, but thanks! Very impressive overall. Didn't Marshall have an all-star PG at Winthrop as well?

Yes, he did. But most people call it an extremely large penis, and he brought it with him.

Oh my! You've seen it?! What a data point!

Definitely need to have every prospective coach drop trou in the future. If a measurement device cannot be located, I know where there's a specimen available for comparison purposes.
