Originally posted by JVShocker View PostPitt upsets Duke at Cameron. Strange ending. Pitt player Hinson jumps up on scorer table in a taunting move in front of the student body after the game. Lots of bad looks from student body, gestures and words exchanged. Just, I don't know, be a bigger man there.
His celebratory scorer's table dance made 2004-2005 Ben Jacobson (player, not coach) proud.
FYI that game was one of Higgy's few blunders. When Marshall came on board, Higgy (mostly) got things figured out.
19 years later and that effing shot still hurts.
It didn't cost us much, just a loss on senior night, but mentally I think it hurt a lot. We already had 2nd locked up.
That season started going south when it seemed we were poised to win the league. 8-1 in conference, beat SIU in Wichita, beating CU in Omaha at half, start the 2nd half on a run and we're up 10 when Dana calls a timeout to talk makeup with Pierce Hibma. They pass the plate and pay off the refs and it's all FTs all the time the rest of the way for the softest, floppiest team this side of Cedar Falls. We lose that game, then win 2 gimmies, sit tied for 1st at 10-2. Then we lose 5 of the last 6 including senior night to the Floppers.
No excuse to lose at Bradley (led at halftime), then come home and allow Crouton to have a Memphis+ 2nd half (Bjs were 16-19 from the field 2nd half) where we garnered ONE, THAT'S RIGHT, ONE defensive rebound in the 2nd half and that was on a missed FT (and we led 38-31 at half). Awful game at Miami in BB. Beat Swomo at home but then off to SIU for the league title and after a quick start (5-0) really were never in the game. Trailed 13 at half, never closer than 7 after that, lost by 10. Deflated, came home and lost to UNI. Lost to Cu for the 3rd time in St Louis then to Vandy on that heartbreaking fail at the buzzer. That whole season hurt.

I ****ing hate that shot by Ben Jacobson more than just about any play in sports history. And you’re right. After that senior night ending, I kinda knew that the Shocks would not be cutting down nets in STL.
And I have never had more swear words come out of my mouth than when UNI popped up on the screen during that selection show. It wasn’t so much that WSU wasn’t in, but that UNI was. WSU finished better in the conference. WSU finished better in the conference tournament. WSU had a solid win at their place whereas they had to win at the buzzer at ours. It was absolute ****ing bull****.
But I’ll go to my grave believing that if you put WSU in UNI’s spot in the NCAA Tournament, something really screwy could’ve happened. It would’ve been a tough task to beat Wisconsin (especially considering how the team was trending), but Bucknell was waiting in the next game after upsetting Kansas. 10-seed NC State was next, and given Roy’s ties to Mark and UNC-NC State rivalry, WSU would have had entire UNC fanbase cheering for them. So…UNC on Easter Sunday in the Carrier Dome to go to the Final 4. It would’ve been a bloodbath, but it would’ve been a fantastic opportunity.
****, now I’m not going to sleep tonight. Thanks, Doc!Last edited by WuShock16; January 21, 2024, 01:00 AM.78-65
