Game one thoughts and overreactions
Pleasantly surprised - or positive notes:
Ridgnal - A lot to work with here. Not sure why he didn't see minutes at Missouri State but a lot of promise on the offensive end. Still a ways to go on the defensive end. Was caught ball watching a lot (though definitely not only him).
Pohto - Controlled, good vision. Looks like he will be one of the leaders this year. Probably not a "surprise" but glad to see him continuing to grow off last year.
Bell - Looked much better this game than last year. Still not sold that his drives and moves will work against better competition, but he looked better. Only downside is he had way too many TO for being expected to be our PG.
Ballard - Surprised only because he was so bad last year. He's still a lob or quick dunk type guy but the potential is there. Didn't look as "lost" as last year. Should be a solid contribution piece if they can gameplan for him.
Neutral -
Rogers - Looked Good, but didn't shoot well like he's been talked up. Hopefully 1 game jitters
Beverly - Same as Rogers. Looked good overall, but nothing was falling
Coaching - Chalking this up to an exhibition, but next to no coaching during the game. Mills was up and standing but really not engaging much in the game. No Timeout even when we were stacking mistakes. I'm guessing this is all due to the exhibition and letting them play more freely.
Joy - Lots of potential but really quick trigger and out of control. Will come with time hopefully.
Negatives
Germany - Seriously looked outclassed. Got some junk time rebounds and pts, but was a complete liability on both sides of the floor during his time in the middle of the game.
Abidde - Still looks lost even this far into his career. Out of control at times and just not a good showing
First half performance overall. We out rebounded them but it sure felt like we were not using our size advantage at all. Later in the second half it kicked in either because of wearing them down or increased focus but that first half was rough.

Highlight of the weekend has to be the baseball team's 7-6 win in their 14-inning scrimmage at Dallas Baptist.
Lowlight is that only around 3,000 showed up for the Rogers State exhibition.Last edited by 1972Shocker; October 29, 2023, 10:01 PM.

To paraphrase Dave Dahl in the pregame radio show, “he (Dave) had never seen a good team without a good point guard and even thou Coach Mills believes he has ball handlers you still have to have a good point guard if you want be successful” . I totally agree with Dave Dahl’s comment and we don’t currently have a good point guard

Anyone who is truly disappointed had their expectations set too high.
This looked like a first exhibition game with a 1st year head coach. Gonna take time......
I feel it went about how I would have expected.
Only thing to be disappointed in is the crowd. Yeah, yeah....football Sunday....against a no name....blah blah. Perhaps we just aren't as diehard as we like to think we are. Even in the bad years I remember better crowds than today, even exhibition games.
But, winning solves that issue. So hopefully the winning comes sooner than later. But I dont expect much from this season.Last edited by shockerfan; October 29, 2023, 07:42 PM."He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said.
