Wichita State should copyright or trademark the denial process - all denials (mostly for non blue blood schools) would then be referred to as.....the shocker.
Or as Buddy Hackett used to say....getting "Shtoooped." And you still can't get it at a pharmacy.
For the younger audience....

NCAA president Charlie Baker defends transfer waiver denials after pushback at UNC, Colorado
https://theathletic.com/4821074/2023...0&redirected=1
As the denials were issued this month, Power 5 schools whose new players were affected expressed their disappointment. North Carolina is appealing the decision on behalf of receiver Tez Walker, who enrolled at North Carolina Central prior to the cancelled 2020 FCS season but left without playing a game and then played at Kent State for two seasons. Florida State defensive lineman Darrell Jackson Jr., who played at Maryland and Miami and applied for a hardship waiver after returning home to the Tallahassee area to be closer to his ailing mother, also had his waiver denied. And Colorado coach Deion Sanders criticized the NCAA’s treatment of mental health issues when transfer offensive lineman Tyler Brown was denied immediate eligibility after following Sanders from Jackson State.
On Jan. 11, 2023, the Division I Council voted unanimously to tighten its policy surrounding waivers for athletes who transfer for a second time and seek to play right away. From the news release:
Moving forward, student-athletes must meet one of the following criteria to be granted a waiver to compete immediately:- A demonstrated physical injury or illness or mental health condition that necessitated the student’s transfer (supporting documentation, care plans and proximity of the student’s support system will be considered), or
- Exigent circumstances that clearly necessitate a student-athlete’s immediate departure from the previous school (e.g., physical assault or abuse, sexual assault) unrelated to the student-athlete’s athletics participation.
Baker said that the rules around multiple-time transfers were looser a year ago in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic and its limitations. A significant number of athletes “probably didn’t have the same opportunities in many cases to check out the first school they went to, and transferring made some sense.”
“I do think that there will be less of that now that kids are back to being able to actually go to school, check it out, figure it out and make decisions,” Baker said. “The first-time (rule), I don’t think anybody’s got issues with. But the membership made a decision, and the decision was they don’t want kids to snap from place to place.
If it is a major problem for any particular program then the solution would seem to be not to recruit players that have already used their 1-time exemption.
I really don't think it is a problem with the process at Wichita State although it would not surprise me if Wichita State is more committed to playing by the rules than many programs are.
If I am going to complain about how free agency is screwing up college athletes I don't feel like I can complain about the NCAA enforcing rules that night work to mitigate that somewhat.
Now the big question with the NCAA is are those rules applied evenly across the board. Hasn't seemed to be a strength of the NCAA in the past.Last edited by 1972Shocker; December 5, 2023, 12:25 PM.

I have a slight issue with Darrell Jackson being denied if there's evidence that his mother is ill and I'm assuming he's much closer to her. I'll always support a waiver for someone going home due to family issues.
I'm not sure how mental health issues apply for someone following their coach.
But waivers definitely need to be harder to get.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Probably the most impressive thing HCPM has done so far is change the culture.
He quickly reviewed everyone on roster or involved with the previous team.
His recruitment of KP was part of step 1 of many. He quickly determine that KP was not only a good player, but was also the type of person he wants on the roster.
The JW, JP and JR's were not the type of personalities needed to change the culture but also the types to hinder progress.
They needed to go and was definitely a case of addition through subtraction.
Many have commented how the bench acts/reacts during a game this year.
Very easy to acknowledge theses guys are all in together and get along.
This type of attitude pays big dividends in the long run and how they will stick together in good times, and more importantly, tough times.
And it all comes from not just coaching, but mentoring young men.
Being a D1 coach these days, mentoring young men is just as, if not more important, than any X's and O's they go over in practice.
Recognizing the right young men to be part of the process, separates the winners from... well what we had.
That is all.Above all, make the right call.
