The glass houses are a bit smudged at times, not only here but every where in society. Is Eck a bit quirky? Yes. His behaviors off the court and how he runs his programs might not meet "Wooden" standards. I could tell a story about one of our own beloved coaches that would make most of us scratch our heads, but we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God, as the scripture says. You would be hard pressed to find a better basketball coach in terms of X's & O's than Eck. I'm sure Turner learned a lot about basketball being around him. I'm glad we have him. Welcome coach Turner.

I work with a guy who was on the Cowley College newspaper staff a couple years before me. I told him what I was wrote about, and he told me workstudy barely scratched the surface.
Tom Saia, the athletic director at Cowley, hired Eck. Eck never had an assistant for very long. My friend was/is friends with Eck. Friends enough that he was hanging out with the team, partying with them, and he knew everything. Tom would slip him $50 every now and then to keep things out of the paper. My friend went to the National championship with the team, and told me the reason they lost that game was because they were all (including my friend) hung over from partying until 3 in the morning.
But where does our assistant fit into this? Steve never personally handed money to the players. He was smarter than that. But his assistants would. They kept money on them and would give a player a $50 and tell them to stay out of trouble. The assistants would buy drugs for the players as well, and their primary job was to keep the players happy.
Steve was smart about all of that too. He wouldn't keep an assistant around for very long. They were in, out, and up the ladder, and tend to rise among the ranks very quickly.
I will do some digging on our new assistant and see if maybe he was an exception. I doubt it, but I will anyway. In any case, it is his association with Eck coupled with my knowledge of Cowley that makes me nervous and uneasy.

Eck has been accused of cheating at most stops along the way. I have never seen any proof that would hold up in the court of law, but I was aware of privileges granted to the families of his players while he was the coach of South.
There have been controversies providing insight into his character as well; the UMKC fall-out was well documented and he definitely came out looking bad. I am sure google would provide some interesting reading material.

I'm not saying Coach Eck isn't a good coach, but his success at South was FAR more about his ability to recruit multiple D1 athletes and overwhelm his competition.
Don't for a minute think or suggest that he's some kind of brilliant X and O guy.

Then you blab about a bunch of stuff and then go on to say you don't know about Turner specifically. I would suggest you keep your mouth shut until you actually know specifics/facts about Turner. Maybe he did do hand out money but again that comes from the top down so if this makes you sick and concerns you then you must believe the same stuff will be allowed, encouraged, and financed from the top down at WSU. Otherwise it wouldn't make you sick or concern you one bit.

If you haven't seen it first hand yourself but are relying on someone else who claims to have done so, the information is hearsay, because you're trusting your source's credibility instead of your own personal observation.

Then its hearsay I trust deeply.
@tatown - I don't like the guys background. And maybe you missed it, but I said I would be checking in with some resources to put myself at ease. I don't know what is wrong with being cautious of a guy with a shady past. Would you let a friend bungee jump with a rope that might have something wrong with it?
Just caution my friend. Just caution.
And back to the hearsay. I trust my source very deeply. And all of the other stuff that I said about Cowley, not about Eck, but about Cowley and the Jayhawk Conference was confirmed by those in charge. So that is not hearsay.People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov
