Didn't Eck have some problems at UMKC? The (fired) head coach there (Sundvold?) got his panties in a wad and accused Eck of undermining (backstabbing) him in hopes of becoming the head coach himself? That whole ugly affair pretty much killed Eck's D-I coaching prospects. That was like the final straw for him.

What's really going on is we are all itching for basketball so bad that even this stuff is the tiny fix that keeps us going :) I don't even care what the debate or conversation is. It attempts to fill the summer void for me. I can't wait for more basketball. Can we get some more videos please!

I will argue till the cows go home about whether or not orukpe is going to suck or whether or not armstead is better than dwill or whether or not is actually possible that we could have a 6'8" guy at the freaking 3 in a lineup so huge that it seems unfair...7', 6'8", 6'8", 6'6", & 6'2"
All because I am apparently addicted to Shocker basketball like all of you guys! Let's play some ball!

My guy said Turner wasn't one of the ones he knew who were knee deep with Eck. He didn't know Turner too well.People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov

And here is why you didn't get paid. Barton and Butler are the minority few that don't pay anymore.
Citing ``institutionalized fraudulent conduct'' at Barton County Community College, a federal judge Monday sentenced the last four coaches involved in the athletics scandal at the Great Bend college to serve time for their crimes.
CBS Sports features live scoring, news, stats, and player info for NFL football, MLB baseball, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, college basketball and football.
Granted, these are all about Barton County. However, the last one mentions other colleges, and then there's this-
Those numbers have been in place for a long time, as long as anyone can remember.
Its all there. This is why it makes me uneasy. And the sick feeling not physically sick, but more like, "I have a bad feeling about this."People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov

On a more salient and relevant note, Coach Turner is probably all of the positive things that Coach Gross said about him. He probably also saw and did some negative things while working for Eck. I doubt that's even debatable. Who is he now? Who knows? As most people are, Turner is a product of his experiences. How those experiences have changed him is not necessarily for us to discuss. And, as for his recruiting expertise, I bet he was brought in (at least to an extent) to work the Kansas JUCO scene. While Coach Heiar and Coach Jans are experienced with JUCO recruiting, they are most familiar with the Southeast. My educated guess is that a large part of what Turner will do will concern the Jayhawk Conference and probably Texas JUCOs. As far as HS kids, who knows? But bear in mind the fact that he was on at UT-AM CC for a single year doesn't mean he recruited Texas at all. The other two assistants (Gross and Dannhoff) have far more experience in Texas and the two of them were probably in charge of different chunks of that state. Whether or not Turner had a chunk to himself is anyone's best guess.
And yes, this is my first post. So sue me. It is June, I am bored, and this conversation was both confrontational and intriguing.

Way too much is being made of this - let this new coach stand on his own merrit and cut out the paranoia. I coached AAU ball with Coach Eck one summer, and there was nothing "fishy" or financial going on there. He did a good job with the X's and O's and and even better job working on the players attitudes about being part of the "team" as opposed to playing as individuals. Steve Woodberry seems to be a fine assistant coach and most players that have played for coach Eck appear to be upstanding individuals.
Even if there is guilt somewhere, guilt by association is very discriminitory and is the same as profiling. We shouldn't let personal vendettas cloud our judgement. After all, who are we to judge anyway?Last edited by vancedave56; June 21, 2012, 05:25 AM.

And as far as @WuDrWu: goes, when you find one of his 10,000 posts that has a single part of it that is untrue, point it out. It will be a waste of your time. So yes, if he says it, you can count on it being true.
Who are you again, @dTm:?
Look I'm not here saying Steve Eck is a saint, Im just saying the guy is a hell of a coach and teacher and if Doc or any of the rest of you cant look at that objectively then so be it. His win loss record and championships at different levels proves the guy can coach.
Not sure how one recruits to a public school where the parents have to actually move to the district, (what do you offer?) and if you really had proof of wrongdoing I'm pretty sure with all the obvious haters out there (jealousy?) we would have known about it by now. So please someone anyone tell me names of those kids that changed districts because of Eck? Impossible to think they wanted to play for the best coach in the city right?
