I think I read that after we signed Derail that WSU is the D1 school with the longest consecutive years of having a player from Houston on the roster. As I recall, there's been someone from Houston on WSU's roster for something like 13 years. That's longer than Houston, Rice, or any other Texas school has had someone from Houston on their roster.
Past Houston, we've had more than a few players from other locations in Texas - Wilson, Durley, Kyles - to name the ones I recall. WSU has a recruiting presence in Texas. Who on the current staff has connections in Texas? The pipeline from Texas was starting to have some holes. This hire is the equivalent of hiring a welder to keep the pipeline flowing.
Ford gave us a presence in Illinois, which we had never had. Then Ford left and took his recruiting to a school in Illinois. That creates a lot of reasons to give up that territory and try to solidify a territory where WSU has a rich history.
Maybe he's good at teaching tall, athletic guys how to catch passes. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I am wary of anyone associated with Eck during his Cowley tenure... this one makes me nervous/sick...People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov

Would someone please just answer the question of what is the issue with Steve eck? I keep hearing he is shady or he is a bad guy to be associated with but I have no idea why and several people have asked. If its such a red flag, then someone explain why. It is before my time and I want to know.

All i know is he is one of the most succesful HS and Juco coach from this area ever. I remember his one year as an asst. at UMKC the coach got in trouble and fired but I dont believe he was ever found guilty of wrongdoing. (I may be wrong) I do know he is an excellent mentor to young kids and has always been an excellent X's and O coach. He has also been very succesful at every place he has coached and I would think someone learning the game from him would be very valuable.
So I guess Doc or Sub will have to fill you in on the rest

I will give you the Coach Eck debate in a nutshell.
One side will provide a barrage of charges which are gound in hearsay with nary a proven fact.
The other side will not accept the hearsay and will not condemn Coach Eck without proven facts.
There is one Coach Eck matter, which is not debatable. He is a very fine coach. This we know because the win-loss facts support this conclusion.
I might add that I do not know Coach Eck. I have heard and read about the Coach Eck debate many times."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

I work with a guy who was on the Cowley College newspaper staff a couple years before me. I told him what I was wrote about, and he told me workstudy barely scratched the surface.
Tom Saia, the athletic director at Cowley, hired Eck. Eck never had an assistant for very long. My friend was/is friends with Eck. Friends enough that he was hanging out with the team, partying with them, and he knew everything. Tom would slip him $50 every now and then to keep things out of the paper. My friend went to the National championship with the team, and told me the reason they lost that game was because they were all (including my friend) hung over from partying until 3 in the morning.
But where does our assistant fit into this? Steve never personally handed money to the players. He was smarter than that. But his assistants would. They kept money on them and would give a player a $50 and tell them to stay out of trouble. The assistants would buy drugs for the players as well, and their primary job was to keep the players happy.
Steve was smart about all of that too. He wouldn't keep an assistant around for very long. They were in, out, and up the ladder, and tend to rise among the ranks very quickly.
I will do some digging on our new assistant and see if maybe he was an exception. I doubt it, but I will anyway. In any case, it is his association with Eck coupled with my knowledge of Cowley that makes me nervous and uneasy.People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do. -Isaac Asimov

Marshall hired him, Marshall runs the program, Turner doesn't. So not sure how any of this relates to having concerns with him at WSU. That stuff runs from the top down. So really I guess you are concerned that Marshall doesn't run a clean program? What exactly are you getting at?
