Had to look it up. Strange that both fires were only a couple blocks from me and I was oblivious. You'd think with that much chaos and multiple fire departments I'd have heard something.

It is suspicious that they were both trailers near each other. We don't have a lot of them these days. Not sure if they were owned or rentals but it will be interesting to find out if it was arson or coincidence.

They weren't these kind of trailers I hope.

From my talks over the years with the two previous police chiefs, this isn't a Benton issue. Still sad we lost out last Chief to Kechi recently. He was a good dude and did a lot of good in the community and I've heard nothing but negative things about the new guy that took over, and that includes comments from other police officers who have previously worked with him. But he had old HS buddies on the city council. Ugh.

But no, they were regular old trailers. Key word is old. It is possible that they were simple accidents. I'll have to reach out to my source within the city to see if they've heard anything more about them.

                • Rutgers 6’7 Guard Paul Mulcahy has entered the portal as a grad transfer. Averaged 9p, 5a, and 3r. Shot 37% from 3. Most likely a long list of suitors, especially B1G schools. Maybe our Paul can get this Paul?

Rutgers basketball: As Paul Mulcahy enters transfer portal, one comment rings true

his past winter the 6-foot-6 point guard averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 37 percent from 3-point range. Over four years his assist-to-turnover ratio sat well north of 2-to-1; his effort and unselfishness were exemplary.

The move is at once unsurprising and shocking.

It’s unsurprising because Mulcahy was demonstrably unhappy as the 2022-23 wore on – unhappy with his painful shoulder injury and the heat he took from some fans as he struggled during Rutgers’ late-season slide, not to mention the losses themselves (which he took more personally than your average college player).

Of his current coach at Rutgers Muclahy said:

“Pike's the best coach in the country; he's an incredible person.” Mulcahy said in March, after Rutgers’ season-ending loss to Hofstra in the NIT. “You play a year for him or however long, he's got you for life. He believed in me when a lot of others didn’t. He’s taken a lot of heat because of me. He does it for everybody. He believes in all of us. He deserves all the things he worked for. He’s going to get us to higher places. I’m so thankful that I got to play for him. There’s a lot going on in college basketball, but he’s the best coach. I’m so grateful for him.”
A 6-6 playmaking postgrad with Mulcahy’s resume will command some real attention from programs with deeper donor pockets than Rutgers; there is cash to be made, and he may well have a payday promise from a tampering program, perhaps one in the Big Ten.

And for Pikiell, who worked hard from the get-go to build deep personal relationships with his players – long before the transfer portal made it tactically advantageous to do so – this is the latest reminder of just how accurate his “dinosaur” comment was. Because being “the best coach in the country” and “an incredible person” is only worth so much in the era of college basketball free agency.

Don't think it's in the budget.

                      • As a grad transfer Mulcahy no doubt is looking for a program that has a good chance of playing in the NCAA Tournament. At this point that is at best a 50-50 proposition for the Shocks and that is being quite generous I think.

Schools that I have seen thrown out as possible landing spots are Illinois, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Georgetown and Michigan.

Even if it is in the budget I see this as a low probability target.

It is interesting that he waited so long to enter the portal. Makes me think that perhaps he had a recent "offer" come in that was too good to pass up.
