Kinda feels like Taylor is cushioning the fanbase for no change.

Though .. forgot that HCIB's contract has a mitigation clause. So if he gets a job elsewhere (which he will), we will only owe him the difference between that pay and what we would have paid him. That would help with a buyout.

Same .. IF ADKS can line up a home run hire in the background ... make the move. If he has nothing lined up, i'm not sure I make the move.

The next hire, and I cannot stress this enough, has to be a home run. If ADKS doesn't feel like the new coach is a slam dunk he should just give IB another year to try and improve. I want a change, but IB has certainly shown the ability to adapt and improve this season. If Pohto, Walton, and Pierre return there will be a framework for a successful team next season. Obviously WSU would need to bring in a stud PG and quality PF to round things out in that scenario.

The mitigation clause is interesting. I wonder if it applies for assistant coaching jobs as well? I don't doubt that IB deserves another head coaching gig but I do wonder if he opts to remain in the upper echelon of the sport as an assistant.

My concern for this year is there are several pretty big jobs opened up and many of the names I've seen thrown around that I like are all rumored for those jobs. So getting someone lined up is important.

To work. Most of these guys have competitive juices and IB is still young enough. Maybe he'll want to prove he can be a HC and find a lower level job to build at.

To put himself in the best position he can be when the checks from WSU stop. Plus, he is young enough that he is going to want something to be doing.

And technically if WSU feels he's not making an attempt they could go to court to void the contract. Contract states he must make an attempt. Its a very gray area .. but like you said, he will want to look anways and IMO he wont have a problem find a job at a mid major. He had enough success here to warrant that .. just not enough to continue learning here.

It depends on IB. If he would like to try to get another job right away, it might be possible. He might want WSU to void the mitigation clause.

Also, might depend on what the lawyers say about whether negotiating the buyout would effectively mean he gets the entire buyout.

Are you referring to him accepting a 2 million buyout THIS year or at the end of next year? I could see him accepting 2-2.5 million at the end of next season so he could potentially land another job and get started building a team. I do not see him accepting 2 million this year. That's about half of what he's owed.

Chris Mack, Adrian Griffin, and Mark Turgeon should be available regardless. I'd even take Will Wade (rumored to be going to McNeese State?!?) at this point.

I will say that IB's turnaround has made me more comfortable if they choose not to make a move.
