It was a response to a question from a WSU fan in their "mail bag" question. "Is there any hope for WSU to leave the AAC to a basketball-first league like the Big East or A-10, or is the AAC the ceiling for a team like the Shocks?"

Norlander: never say never, but the AAC feels like the ceiling for WSU. blah blah blah. WSU fans hope to get back to top-25 . . . objectively WSU should be aiming for Top 40. WSU should be a top-3 in the AAC. (some generally positive comments about Mills)

Parrish: If Gregg Marshall, or anyone else could have kept WSU where they were, then the Big East is a goal. Right now, try to be relevant in the American.

They are moving up by basically throwing 70+ million at the problem.

If they go 5, then yea it’s those 5 or sub UNLV for Fresno maybe. One idea thrown out on the AAC board is that if they go with 3, it might be reasonable to subsidize the MWC exit fees for 3 with the exit fees from SMU and potentally Pac Money if they can find a way to make it a "merger" so that the new conference keeps the PACs CFP/NCAAT money. Then those 3 can join in 2024 vs 2025. Would be a little harder to do 5 early like that but I guess they could stagger those and do 3 in 2024 and 2 more in 2025

No way I would take Fresno over UNLV. Fresno is a garbage market and wouldn’t add much from an athletics standpoint. At least UNLV had some successful tradition.

SMU might be willing to forego $70 million of conference distributions to get into the ACC, but that doesn't put one extra penny into the current members' pockets. After that initial period SMU is likely to dilute each schools earnings.

I wonder how many of those schools are thinking they wont be in the ACC in 7 years so it doesn't really matter .. i know at least 4 are thinking that (the no votes)

Just think. If we still had football, it could be us waiting for the sealed invitation to join the Sun Belt conference in order to get into a league that plays "real" football.

SMU willing to forego 7 years of revenue should tell ACC schools just how worthless and bad they think they are of themselves. I would be shocked if an ACC school wanted to add somebody so desperate and is basically devaluing their own worth.

I know we're at the mercy of football but I'm just going to say it. I don't want to be in a league with 16 schools, let alone 20. How do you develop rivalries, or get familiar with most of the league from playing them twice a year? If you only play teams in your division, then it's not really a conference schedule. It just feels like the shark is being jumped with this "mega conference" crap, and I'm quicky losing interest when combined with what free transfers and NIL is doing to the sport.

I'm not one of those fans who put all their energy into whether or not we make the NCAA tournament, or how far we went. It's certainly icing on the cake, but I want to enjoy a regular season of exciting conference battles and playing our rivals (whoever that's supposed to be) twice a year.

I hate that we (WSU) have no say in any of this, and no reasonable alternatives, unless the Big East were to throw us a lifeline.
