I mean, the rule was that to accept a one-time transfer does not carry a year penalty. So it wouldn’t be hypocritical at all of the Siena coach.

It could be that Rogers just wanted to leave and try to play at a higher level (totally reasonable) but he had already used up his one-time no-penalty transfer. If so, you have to accept the consequences.

Again, that said, it doesn't seem consistent with how other schools are able to qualify players. But I generally think the transfer sit-out rule is a good one when applied equally.

I think we can be mad that the process is patently unfair, but also not be upset with Siena for wanting the rules to be enforced. I think that's disingenuous.

If Siena tried to get a waiver for a 2nd-time transfer without mitigating circumstances, that would be hypocritical. As you say, we may not like it, but they are playing by the rules and I honestly don't blame them. Had, say, Ricky Council transferred to WSU without sitting out, then jumped because he would rather play for a higher level team or greater NIL opportunities, I would support WSU for not signing a run-off waiver.
