    This is correct.

Let's get Carr, X, and Fred involved for basketball... PLEASE!
I would even say Ron Baker, Evan Wessel, Garrett Stutz and John Robert Simon due to their business savy, wichita connections....etc.

No, spending stupid today is NOT going to work. It will help with ticket sales again, which is important for sure, but it will not lead to the large paydays. If you want to get to the 500 megadollar paydays, you will need a recurring revenue stream.
Of course we're gonna need a revenue stream... it just ain't gonna come from a big, fat, endowment. It's gonna come for yours and my wallets. This will take a crowdfunded/grass roots effort. Chuckles ain't gonna come down and start paying a bunch of High School kids 100's of thousands of dolla billz. It goes against everything he stands for. Charles Koch is NOT T. Boone Pickens. We don't know which recruit is gonna "take us" deep in the Dance. But if we don't have 'em, we have no chance of going anywhere.

          • All we know is: we need NiL funds NOW. We don't know what our program is going to look like in 5 years. If we pay our asses off we may just be able to tread water as far as what we've grown used to seeing on the court - top 40 performance. I fear that even WITH spending our asses off the gap widens between us and the power conferences for reasons I've already stated before.

If it comes down to money, and we want a top 25 team, we're going to have to - on average - spend more than some power conference teams. How is that even remotely feasible? AND they'll have better television exposure, better chance at getting bids, etc. etc. ekfkingcetera.

Something aside all the NIL stuff. In reading the article, they had this pic of Tymber Lee back in has baseball days. I LOVE that uni! Baseball should add that one into the mix, or at least have it for a throwback game and auction the jerseys afterwards. That makes me think of something else. Could an NIL collective get into offering merchandise for sale and put the profits back into the NIL coffers? Does it matter how the NIL collective generates its funds?

I think the rules on a collective are pretty light. I'm sure there are tax implications but as far as NCAA implications really the only rules i've seen is "can't be use to entice a player to your school" .. which is basically an unenforcable rule. I haven't see anything about restrictions on where the money comes from.

                • This is great news and a good start. Need to keep the pressure on and push this even further. I honestly cannot fathom a world where an athletic director at a major university would let this slip through the cracks. It is literally beyond me.

It's an interesting listen - at 35 minutes in he talks about what he's heard regarding NIL's and WSU players, mainly that the players are frustrated with WSU's efforts.
To be honest, my interest in all of this is lower than low and probably not changing any time in the foreseeable future.

But let me just say, we listened to "the players" once recently, we know how that turned out, so if there's going to be a "winning" plan (whatever the **** that means in today's world) then can we at least have some intelligent adults making the decisions, please? I've had enough with the inmates running the asylum for quite a while, thanks.

I feel better (compared to the first time we listened to the players) that the Batys and Tyler Weber are involved. Doesn't guarantee success, but probably puts us in a better position.

Still a lot to do and a lot that's up in the air.

One caveat is the baseball team. It'd be worth spending stupid over there to see if you can get momentum.
                        Thank you.

Disappointed that lack of foresight came from 'Cold. He knows better. Or at least he used to know better.

It CAN be done. Of course, it takes the loyal, local alumni members of BASEBALL to get this done. Wake me when a basketball alumnus joins the fray (and Cold, it ain't gonna be AC, that I can promise you).

We do have the means, or the opportunity at least, to start a big pile of cash. In fact, it could be done with a single phone call. As of yet though, no one will make that call.

But until there is teamwork throughout the UNIVERSITY and ATHLETICS, we're going to continue to be stuck in the mud. None of them work together. The U, athletics, fund raising...and now we add a 4th element.

                        • There is a fine line between organizing this NIL in a way that both benefits the University and the athlete in both the long and short term. I agree that just throwing a sh!t ton of cash at any kid willy nilly is not a good smart plan. It must be well thought out and well organized with all bases covered. We have to resist the urge to get caught in the "X school is paying Y player this amount of money so we must top that at all costs." It seems a little like the wild wild west out there now but my hope is that some structure will be put in to place as we move forward. I think the schools will have to push that though as it doesn't seem that the NCAA has any f*cking clue what they are doing, as usual.

                          • We're going to find out instantly whether the donor base believes in WSU leadership. I could envision those leading the NIL collective receiving a lot of rejections.

Couldn't Harvard squash the entire country in every sport, starting next year, if they were so inclined? Doesn't that mean the P5 is going to look very different, very soon, if caps aren't put in place?

They will see that soon enough, and there will be caps put in place.
I thought the same thing except the admission standards would get them. Too many donors for Ivy League schools abhor athletics.

AC won't do anything unless there is $$$ in his account for it. So no. Fred, yes, and probably X. Ron would do anything to help the program. PJ if he lived here would be my first choice.
