Transfer Portal Discussion (outgoing player tracking)
I am honestly probably going to pay more attention to the NBA after all of this crap. Maybe in 10 years if the Shox can get their S together I will be more interested.
Yea that's honesty happened with me, been so since the Marshall mess took place.
there's a reason Jay Wright retired. A lot of coaches see the direction this is going and whether their school will be able to compete. Even if we had guys like Ricky set up with a car and $100k salary, there will be another school offer him $250k after a year of development. We will never be able to keep up.
I think you are probably correct. The primary thing the transfer portal/consequence free transfer year and the NIL rules have done is made the chasm between the haves and have nots substantially wider and deeper than it has ever been an no reason to think the size of that chasm won't be ever expanding like the universe if things continue on their present course.
With the so many Shocker fans claiming they are dropping their season tickets and SASO support (and I doubt that the denizens of ShockerNet are all alone with that sentiment) the financial stresses on the athletic department, which currently has no reserves of any significance, may soon turn into a crisis situation unless there are some white knights out there willing and able to ride to the rescue.
What happens if the AAC television contract gets cut significantly in a couple of years?
I am having a great deal of trouble being the least bit optimistic and while admittedly my eyesight is not great I am just not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Have any of you studied these numbers? As I am trying to make a business case for soccer (mainly to myself) I deep dove into this document. Let me see what bothers you and we can compare notes:
At least in the 90’s we were always one good coaching hire from being able to turn this program around. At this point, we are buried with no way out. We don’t have football money coming in. We don’t have a a long line of guys worth $100M + that can set up funds to pay players in perpetuity. Our rich guys are old and probably hate this new model. Even if we could buy a guy or two, nothing stops them from becoming free agents after cashing their checks. The NCAA effed this whole thing up by not putting a cap on earnings and trying to maintain some sort of semblance of amateurism.

The problem is they are trying to maintain the disguise of "amateurism" but letting all the bad parts in. They are still Amateurs .. they aren't getting paid to play. They are getting paid to do commercials ... advertistments .. go to a kids barmitvah .. that's what they are getting paid for. So they are still amateurs by rule. If we are going to do it right .. just blow it up and get rid of amateurism. Make them sign contracts with financial implications. Put salary caps on teams. Put rules in place once they accept money ... just like the pros have.
This trying to get all the benefits of a pro league with none of the drawbacks or rules isn't going to work.

Outside of the Jim Shaus (sp?) era and the #watchus campaign, I can’t think of a creative thought our Athletic Department has had since Jim Bradeholf was our AD.

Monkey on unicycles during halftime doesn’t count? How about the Ashley Furniture recliner behind the goal for one lucky fan? They have ideas baby!

They capitalized off "Play Angry", but that was all thanks to Big Dog, X-Man, and 3Gs
CLEAN HOUSE---well, much of that has already been done.
Forgive the rant...well, actually, I don't care if you do or not.
The NCAA is a disaster. The portal is the ruin of college basketball.
Can we put to rest FOREVER the title "STUDENT-Athlete". For the MOST part, these guys aren't students...they are in school for one reason and one reason only.
We don't say "Student-Engineers", "Student-Chemists", Student-dentists"....we shouldn't have the word "student" in front of these "athletes".
In what other program on campus would the "teacher" or "dean" be allowed to lose roughly 70% of the "students" and then be allowed to keep a job?
We have gone, in a very short amount of time, from being a team that was talked about around the country AND admired, to a laughing stock.
HCIB had to have known about the "abuse" by HCGM. Did he ever say anything to the superiors above HCGM? Did Marshall's superior suffer any consequences (yeah, right...he got rewarded). In other programs, when there has been "gross misconduct", anyone involved gets the axe as well. This program and department has become a joke. Where is the CHARACTER?
And what has become of this university...censorship abounds. Even the Student Government Association is now censoring a program for calling out a "senator".
In the past few years, we have seen the censorship (and yes, it was censorship) of the Trump daughter. We have seen the loss of MANY huge financial backers of the university over that. We have gone from a respected and up and coming university to something that many have lost pride in. Where is the President to speak of what is happening? Where is anyone? Where is the character? Show me why I should spend a dime in support of this university at this time.
End of rant.
