No. It's not nearly that organized or loyal. It's a 100% free for all. NFL, NBA and MLB PA would kill for this level of freedom.

I'm not saying I'm out here offering NIL deals to players to make them stay. I don't have any of the resources to make that happen. But I do hope, for the sake of the program and the university that we all love, that those who do can start making something happen.

Time will tell. But we're off to a bad start.
It all falls on the athletic department. They have to be the ones to organize it. They have to move the process along. Donors just connecting randomly with players isn't going to drive what we need. The AD should have known this was coming. That's literally part of their job.

We gambled we could ride our name and could take a wait and see approach to NIL. Well we failed.

      • The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

That’s the rub with this whole thing. There is no commitment required from players when schools make an investment in them.

You want them to be free agents, unionize, whatever? Fine. They should be able to be fired for poor performance at the employer’s discretion, and have some sort of skin in the game.

That's kind of where I am. I harbor no ill will towards anyone making a living or profiting. But don't count on my blessing or my support if you aren't loyal to the same people/organization that I am.

I could say that I hope, in the end, it will blow up in "their" faces....but the fact is it won't. Money is almost always going to outweigh the enjoyment of a loyal fan base. It just is, certainly with the under 25 crowd. And I don't blame them for that. It's a no win situation for fans like us.....I honestly believe that the landscape has been trending here for so long is why fans like myself, '72 and many others have slowly migrated to other programs.

I love basketball like no other sport. But more and more my emotional and financial support has bled into sports where my support is welcomed, appreciated and fostered. And it's going to accelerate.

I don't see the landscape ever changing back.

            • I'm done, I'm out, the NCAA has basically legalized what schools like Kentucky and KU have been doing under the table for decades. I don't want to watch one-and-done no-names come through the Chuck every year. Boatright's driving the athletic program into the ground like a lawn dart. There will be no recovery, the patient's making the Q-sign. How many ways can I say I'm pissed off and I'm not going to take it any more.

              • Eff this! I am so p!ssed at this. Marshall was run out on a rail for having a lot of transfers and nobody is even questioning IB and crew. Done with all of this.

This is 100% on Doucheboat for not being proactive and helping these kids with NIL deals. A monkey could have seen this coming a mile a way and put something simple together with local business people and boosters. IB is an idiot as well for just sitting around and not putting pressure on the administration.

                Such a damn shame.

                  • Have any of you studied these numbers? As I am trying to make a business case for soccer (mainly to myself) I deep dove into this document. Let me see what bothers you and we can compare notes:

Bingo. It’s becoming like European soccer. A handful of teams get all the good players, and unless you catch lightning in a bottle a la Leicester City (a once in a generation type of occurrence), you can only hope to stay within striking distance. You’ll never compete with the best teams.

                        • I am honestly probably going to pay more attention to the NBA after all of this crap. Maybe in 10 years if the Shox can get their S together I will be more interested.

I would but I’m working towards FIRE first, only 28. Need to build up early retirement before I do things like that

Isn't that how it has been for WSU for, well, ever? Dave Stallworth, AC, Cliff and X, then Fred and Ron.

Okay, I am not going to defend IB because he is making more money than he deserves at this point, but this is way more about the system and his boss' lack of foresight than him. He has no clout or bargaining power.

Marshall would have bitched out loud about the NIL and then told Boatright how it was going to go down for us to stay competitive and went out and found the money to do that. We still wouldnt ever be where we were with the transfer portal screwing up the game, but we wouldn't be losing ground against our peers.

                                Soccer anyone?
