I always felt ADES was not a leader, but at least a politician. Now I wonder if he's even a good politician.

The response indicates HCGM does not respect Elgin and might not even respect ADES unless he had the AD's support.

What does ADES do? Find another conference or commit to HCGM that he shall do everything within his power to have Elgin removed.
He definitely needs to support his coach.

Or he could decide HCGM isnt worth the "headache" and let him go...sorry but I could see him doing that...which would be awful. But I cant see him going the other conference route, and that is also something that the AD cant decide all on his own. In fact, Im not even sure how much say he would have in it...he would have to get a lot of support from the Administration in general to leave the conference, something I dont see him getting. Has any of the administration (beyond the athletic dept or even in the athletic dept) expressed interest in conference shopping? And then there is the issue of finding a conference that is a "step up". Im still not convinced a Mountain West/CUSA conference would want us, especially without football.

Getting Elgin removed...now I could see him going that way though, honestly, you'd need nine other schools supporting that removal or at least five more to make it 60/40 in favor of his removal...so Im not sure how HCGM would take a pledge like that given its likelihood to succeed is probably low.

Especially against physical conferences.

Marshall should be frustrated because he can't prepare his bigs mentally if every bump gets called. Paul Miller had this issue and now Stutz.
But Wilkins was allowed to go all WWE on Stutz. That wasn't basketball - that was rasslin' - including a leg-lock takedown followed by an elbow to the face. The play before the double tech, Wilkins had an arm around Stutz waist and his body propped up on the other side, so Stutz couldn't move at all - no call.

I can't imagine Stutz dropping an f-bomb or anything, so the T was probably a "I've got to cool this down on both sides" call by the official. Carp, if they had let Stutz play and not let Wilkins play D like a defensive lineman, they wouldn't have had to calm the situation down.

Marshall getting a reprimand is freaking classic! I think it's great. All it's gonna do is make the chip on his shoulder even bigger. Make him want to dominate even more and shove his foot even further up the ars of the Valley. I'm starting to embrace the fact that we are hated in this league. I think back to all of the years when the other schools relished the fact that we were completely inept as a program, yet deep down, they knew that we were a sleeping giant once we got our butt in gear and had some leadership. We are almost to the point where we can become a prominent program in the this area. We are consistently getting quality players and on the verge of consistent top 25 teams. The next logical step would be to put out feelers to some of the other conferences to see if there is any interest. If Creighton were smart, they'd ride our coattails. Name any non BCS conference that wouldn't want our 2 schools to join them. I don't think it's gonna happen, but hey, it's fun to speculate. I think Marshall's comments were basically saying, "Whatever, don't care. Worrying about other things." I don't believe he's on the verge of looking elsewhere, but that's just me. No doubt he's gonna get some calls, but as I've said before, it's gonna take a unique offer. I'd like to know what his salary is compared with other schools in the top 15 - 35 schools. I bet it's comparable.

For those thinking this reprimand will make him want to leave even more, may not be considering that prospective ADs are going to be just as turned off by it. I'd say his chances of leaving, especially to South Carolina, just dropped 10-20%, if not more.

Agreed. It might make him wish to leave, I really dont know. But I do think this makes him look less attractive to probably some schools. Though then I wonder if his competitive spirit would also make him attractive to a few others??

That occurred to me. Maybe Marshall isn't treated differently by the league, but that's not the appearance. Maybe WSU isn't treated differently than other teams in the Valley, but that's not the appearance.

The probl;ems Marshall has had in St. Louis may make it much easier for him to consider the offers he will certainly get after the season is over.

RoyalShock.. I respectfully disagree. If I"m an AD, I'd use the reprimand as a selling point to recruit Marshall (we have a great Commish, Great League, etc...).

Seems to me it makes it more likely that he tries to leave; and he might get taken off some lists, but he was probably off them already. His volatility is not for everybody.

                    • To all the other MVC fans that think HCGM is an A** think about this. How many games has your team won over the last 3 seasons? How many national tournament championship banners have you hung in your gym over the last three years? (yes the NIT is a national tournament) How many quality young men have you put through your program, and how many of them actually graduated? I could go on.

So our coach gets pissed when he loses, especially when he feels like he's been given the shaft. When has that become a bad quality? I would rather he raise some hell than just bend over and say thank you sir can I have another.

I know that WSU hasn't won the STL tourney since its been there and I know that makes us want it more every time we don't. It will happen and it will probably happen sooner if HCGM remains our coach. So continue to hate our coach and call him names but know one thing, you'll hate him more and more with every victory he gets over your team.

Oh and by the way, when we're still playing season after season long after your season is over. Stay off our band wagon because there is no room for you.

No, and NO. There's nothing "between the line" except the dust on your glasses, SB. Clean them and get over your (latest) doomsday scenario.

                        • Shockernet can get pretty strange at times but this and other threads popping up are taking the place to a whole new bizarre level.

I can help it easily, mainly because I don't project my crankiness about the Valley onto Marshall.

                            • I'd like to see how much others schools in this fine conference hate us if he could pull of what Gene did in baseball - 14 straight conference championships. Can you imagine the vitriol? Gawd, that would be fun.
