I totally (but respectfully) disagree with this. :)

Not a single AD will be turned off by this isolated reprimand from a conference official over a controversial referee situation.

There are the concerns of an AD:

How many players have HC3GM graduated?
    How many have been arrested?
What's his win-loss records look like?
How many times has been brought up on NCAA recruiting violations for achieving the success he has?
What was his reputation in the community at the prior two places he's been?
What's it gonna cost me to get one of the top 20 coaches in the country to my school?
What was his relationship like with the athletic directors at the prior two schools he has been to?

The answers to those overarching questions are nothing but outstanding. In fact, this issue is probably the opposite of a detractor and could certainly be spun into a humorous way to break the ice with future employers.

He can't. I'm just commenting on the absurdity of it.

        • Who cares. At the end of the day, GM conveyed his displeasure and the MVC came back with their obligatory "shame on you Mr. Marshall". Let's move on.

              • I found DrWu's comments about Self from the game at DU
Kelly Self, Terry Moore, David Stevens. You SOBs can lick the cheese off my scrotum. At least the mentally disabled are consistent. You call the touch loose ball against Toure (fouling him out) but you let Rice's charge go, Simon's walk go etc etc....the charge on Garrett's and 1 was beyond brutal. DWill getting fouled....loose balls calling tie ups. Miserable game. You 3 are so far over your heads it's not funny. You have no idea how to manage a game and not be influenced by 3000 bandwagon fans. Retire or go sack groceries. GFY.
I imagine 3G noticed some of those same things and reported them to the league offic in his evaluation of the officials. He probably included some game film and may have even commented that there was a suspicious number of critical calls that all went against WSU late in the game - possibly affecting the outcome of the game.

The league office then probably had a review session with those officials to discuss the game evaluations. Only the league officials would know how that meeting was received by the respective officials.

Then Daily shows up as a WSU official in St. Louis and "a lot of strange things happened in that game".

Some of you may think I've gone off the deep end, but getting Daily again after the problems at DU may have been Elgin sending a message to Marshall to not complain about officials even "through the proper channels". I think Elgin has promoted himself to dictator instead of commissioner.

The response indicates HCGM does not respect Elgin and might not even respect ADES unless he had the AD's support.

What does ADES do? Find another conference or commit to HCGM that he shall do everything within his power to have Elgin removed.
He definitely needs to support his coach.
He makes money, and lots of it. Sexton is a great fundraiser, and that is why he was hired. Dr. Beggs KNEW Sexton had close relationships with Mr. Koch, etc. As a result, the athletic department is very well off financially, which has allowed him to keep Marshall, Lamb, etc. I know you hate Sexton, but he does a great job of what he does best. He is not going to duke these types of things out in the press, I can assure you of that. It is actually really good for WSU to have an AD like Sexton to balance out Marshall. If Sexton was as firey as marshall, that would be a major explosion.

                    • Imagine being the boss of both Marshall and Stephenson and trying to keep those guys in line from a PR perspective. Both can be a little volatile.

It may feel good to raise your voice in a public forum but maintaining composure and leading by example is the better policy.

Especially, when it comes to long term effects and impact.
Then where is the public reprimand of the officials when they fail to conduct business in a dignified manner? You, yourself, have argued that calls in the ISU game were likely made because an official lost his professionalism (albeit in an extremely emotional arena). I'm not saying that losing professionalism is a good idea (although, frankly there are times when something drastic has to be done to uproot institutionalized problems that a professional demeanor cannot solve). I am saying that when the league A) refuses to publicly criticize the officials for their loss of composure or B) do anything behind the scenes to assure that such losses of composure do not recur, then the league has lost the moral high ground to reprimand.

Also, for the record, according to your line of reasoning, Marshall's actions will have harmful long term effects. The only way this could be true is if the league was so unprofessional as to hold a personal vendetta against him for his statements. If that is the case, we circle back to the hypocrisy of reprimanding a coach for a loss of professionalism by a group that shows none themselves. If that is not the case, then perhaps Marshall dramatically calling the problem to attention was exactly what was needed for change to occur.

                        • In speaking of "professionallism," what I have found in my business is that making a big scene will get you what you want right now. Being calm and professional will get you what you ultimately want in the future. I'm a big fan of the latter, however, in this instance, if HCGM is "rallying the troops" for an NCAA run and his tactics are geared towards that end, I am 100% in favor of his actions. This tournament IS the long term goal and doing what is necessary in order to achieve this goal is OK by me.

I sent one as well. Elgin may silence the coach but not the masses.
