And you can refuse to acknowledge the incredible accomplishment that was making the NIT run in that gigantic rebuilding year.

None of it proves that the “negative Nancy’s” were right.
Quite the opposite...and it wasn't just the last game. The issues that were sighted much of last year came home to roost in both post season tournaments. We just look at how the same mental errors that plagued the end of the year and how they are showing up again differently.

    • There are very few reasons over the past 3 games to think this team is something special. But, it's also clear that they have superior talent than the 3 teams we've played. Because talent was basically the only reason we got Ws. We didn't out-hustle, out-scheme, or play all that well. But we won.

I think we will get better, and if the pieces we have play solid games, we are capable of beating a lot of teams.

My advice is to limit expectations and just watch and root for the team.

But, I won't underestimate what a healthy TE brings to the team.

To post this statement you must have the Nabob (Fever) blocked; unblock hm and you will discover the source for Molly Jabali's statement "It's one thing to critique...it's another if ALL you do is find fault...there is a happy medium out there...."

I'd agree with the quote...and I've seen Fever post positive comments during games that have shown positive elements. He is a fan that has been on here for a long time and is pretty straightforward about his reactions...not always completely one way or the other. I don't know that I've seen a post by Nabob...honestly, I don't read the names of posters nearly as much as I just read posts.

Well, said. Myself, I will give credit when it is due. FWIW, I also opine on what I perceive as
areas of concern at the team, player and coaching level. I am not a sunshine pumper but I
am, and always have been, a very strong fan through thick and thin.

not really referring to you......there are some here seemingly incapable of finding a happy thing...if you have not seen it, well....

Nabob is the term I use to refer to Fever as he IMO perfectly represents William Safire's "nattering nabobs" reference to the press during Richard Nixon's administration. Unlike you I have seldom "...seen Fever post positive comments during games" my experience is that his posts are overwhelmingly negative regardless of the sport on which he comments.

Although he has thousands of posts on Shockernet I do not consider him to be a fan of the Shockers but rather he uses Shockernet as a crutch to support his need for public recognition.

This looks like a team still finding its way, especially without its leader not able to contribute.
The PG's are learning how to play and handle D1 level ball. There will be bumps along the way.
We have two transfers who definitely are on learning curve when it some to adjusting to the next level.
Not a good match up tonight for KP, but I am still buying every available stock option. Dude just has THAT look.
I had been told that Jenkins was uber athletic - he can certainly cover floor space in a millisecond. Need to see more of him, especially when they play more athletic teams.
Tarleton was well coached - if they had anyone who could consistently make a shot, this game could have had a much different outcome.
Will have a better idea about this team come this weekend - will be in person to watch it unfold.

                  That is all.
I agree with everything except the fact that Tarleton is well coached .. they weren't. If your team has THAT many shot clock violations .. you aren't doing your job as a coach.

                  • The style of this foe took me back to the Jack Hartman days when he coached K-State. No thanks. The Shocks have hung in there against 3 teams that were better than I thought. I'm liking our depth considering that TE, MD, and DD are not all hitting on all 8 cylinders but yet we are 3-0. Now comes the crux of our non-con schedule to see where our beloved Shox are versus some really stiff competition. Black and Yellow bay bay!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Actually, it was Spiro Agnew who used the term (and not necessarily in the right manner). "Nabob", used in the proper manner, is probably not the best word to use in describing anyone here. Of course, the term could also be used for someone named "Robert" who has a problem with salt.

William Safire coined the term "nattering nabob" and put it in a speech Spiro Agnew delivered to the press during Watergate. While working in England I discovered the Brits often used the word to describe individuals who were jealous of others success - another slang term the Brits use that I like is gobsmacked!

                        • Guys, if you don't listen to the Talk Angry podcast I recommend you check it out. Most of you know we have a treasure in Taylor Eldridge; he provides some great insight on those shows. I haven't made it through the one that was released after the first couple of games but so far so good. I don't know Taylor's marital status, but if he's single I hope he settles down with a Wichita girl that refuses to leave south central KS.

I'm not sure those Brits (who I've spent a lot of time with as well) were being too "complimentary" and perhaps a tad racist when using the term. And, indeed, "Gobsmacked" (I use it as well) is a great term. As is "bullocks"---I don't use that one as much.

                            • It seems like our shooting percentage goes up when we cut back on stupid shots.

                              • It was a better effort from the team for sure last night. It's hard to draw a ton of new conclusions other than that but I'll try.

I think not having Etienne allowed other guys to step up and not have the crutch of Etienne with them. I think it was really valuable for Chaunce to get some minutes. His potential is obvious.

In the same vein, it would be useful to get other players some minutes as we are playing the likes of Norfolk St, Alcorn St, and Prairie View A&M. Speaking of which, any news on Abidde?

This was the type of team where Mo has literally no opposition in the post. He was efficient scoring but still had 3 TOs. JSU's bigs made it difficult for him to score so I'm imagining Arizona's bigs will be similar.

                                Joe Pleasant has a DONK.

The concerns from the first two games (and the carry-over concerns from last season) are still there. Defense has been good but it's not like we're playing any good teams yet.

Arizona will be an interesting gauge for where this team is right now. I couldn't tell you the first thing about them other than the fact that they will be talented and athletic, and our guys better be ready.
