      • I don't understand why more schools aren't hiring their own assistants with no head coaching experience. It's just baffling.

I hate the blanket statement on assistant coaches with no HC experience. I've said multiple times and will continue to say that not all ACs are equal. Some are truly groomed for a HC spot and you know they're future HCs. Had 3G taken another job while Jans was still here, I don't think anyone would have had issues with him taking over. The problem is, is that nobody talked about IB that way. He allegedly had a school reach out to him for a job and he didn't interview for it. That shows the lack of demand and that there was no real inclination he was a man for the job. It also may have indicated that he didn't either want to be a HC or didn't think he was ready. You can interview for a job and still decline and let them know it's not for you. He didn't even bother.

But even if it was simply a bad place he didn't want to bother with, the fact still remains that even locally he wasn't seen or talked about as a future HC. Then we even went as far as not even bothering to do a search of any kind which only makes his hiring even worse. There are ACs out there that are ready for the job. Ready for the challenge. And some are ready at a higher level than others. And don't get me wrong, there are some ACs you know will be HCs but you may not trust them to start at a certain level. In my opinion, Jans is one of the few that I think most would have accepted right off the bat had he not had HC experience and Marshall had left earlier for another job. He was truly 3Gs right hand man and had proven himself as a leader, a scout and recruiter. He also exemplified the fire and passion that most want to see on the sideline. Brown didn't show all of those things.

You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha, you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia," but only slightly less well-known is this: Never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

We did that twice. Look how those worked out.

See sub, this opinion reveals small minded thinking, and/or just plain humorless rancor (based upon a lot of your other posts. Adibbe anyone?).

Were you busy watching b12 games (you don't have to answer because we already know) last year when, universally, the national media was congratulating WSU on a good hire? All after his team had won the conference, something GGG couldn't do? Oh yeah, WSU beat the Cougars because of covid.

Your post makes it sound like we're witnessing the second coming of Cohen. Give us who know better (you apparently don't) a break. What was Cohen's record after 2 years? What about 3 years? Smithson's? Thompson's?

Jeez, what next? If only WSU had a post who hit the floor for loose balls? Our small forwards are the future? A slow (-ahem- methodical) point guard is an effective point guard in today's game? Oh, wait...
