Defense and rebounding. Well we will get a chance on Monday to personally observe if progress has been made in this area. Granted Missouri Southern is not Div 1, but the principles of defending and rebounding remain the same regardless who you are playing against. And I hope we shoot better than we did against Drake. Go Shocks.

Then you are not paying attention. A Gene Stephenson or GGG are rare breeds. With the rapid changes in basketball landscape and the realignments going on the ground to achieve what these guys have done for wsu just will not be there (and I didn’t even talk about my lack of confidence in the AD/President).

You are wrong. You can not predict the future.

Not paying attention to what? Your crystal ball?

Saying he's the best coach we've ever had is a pretty solid argument that can be backed up by things you "pay attention to"

Saying he's the best coach we ever will have ... is just dumb. Is it possible ? sure ... but I'm not on board with thinking our best days are in the past. We can't predict the future and we have every possibility to land a coach that can take us back to the final four (or ideally, a natty). Who knows .. might already be here

You can keep your bridge and lottery tickets; while I keep an open mind regards Shocker coaches.

Ralph Miller is in a class by himself - the greatest Shocker coach as he attained his success coaching in the Valley of Death and was successful at two other major universities - Iowa and Oregon State. Ralph was a great ambassador for Wichita and the State of Kansas - born in Chanute, had marvelous high school and university (Kansas) athletic careers and on May 3, 1988 was enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame. One of the three great Kansas born/bred basketball coaches - Adolph Rupp (Halstead, Ks), Dean Smith (Emporia, Ks) and Ralph Miller.

A debate could be held regards who is #2 behind Ralph. Four former coaches worthy of consideration include Marshall, Gene Smithson, Eugene Johnson and Leonard Umnus.

Not taking anything away from Ralph Miller's greatness, but it doesn't approach Marshall. If you can't see that, then you are blinded by some personal vendetta and/or are an idiot.

                      Ralph Miller:
                      • 220-133 record at WSU (62%)
                      • 81-75 conference record (52%)
                      • 3 NIT appearances (basically NCAA's as that was the premier tournament of the day)
                      • 1 NCAA Elite Eight
                      • From Chanute, KS

                      Gregg Marshall:
                      • 330-121 record at WSU (73%)
                      • 171-55 conference record (76%)
                      • 7 NCAA appearances in 12 eligible years
                      • 1 Final Four
                      • 1 Sweet Sixteen
                      • 3 Round of 32 appearances
                      • 1 NIT Championship
                      • 1 NIT Semifinal appearance
                      • From Greenwood, SC

You are ignoring the fact the MVC produced National Championship, Final Four Teams and Nationally Ranked caliber teams when Ralph Miller coached the Shockers. While Marshall produced his record in a MVC that never produced a National Championship or a Final Four Team (other than 1 time by the Shockers) and almost never had a team ranked in the national polls. The attached link will help you draw a relevant comparison between the stature of the MVC when Ralph coached versus Marshall.

Importantly the NCAA Tournament invited only 32 teams during Ralph's tenure; Marshall's teams sought seedings in 64 or 68 team tournaments.

According to MKR's logic Marshall will be a shoo-in for enshrinement in the Basketball Hall of Fame; please post this event when it happens. I mean after all, Ralph has been enshrined but his greatness "...doesn't approach Marshall."
