AAC adding 6 teams

Count me as one who thinks that the Big 12 isn't going anywhere. They regrouped well after the loss of OU and Texas. In fact, they totally owned the AAC and took three of our best schools. This after much speculation that the AAC was in the power seat and ready to pounce on a weakened Big 12. There is really not a good Power Five alternative for any Big 12 school to go to, including KU and Oklahoma State. Any conference they go to, they will be peripheral in it. It's in their best interest (KU and Oklahoma State) to keep the Big 12 strong and keep it as a Power Five conference.

When the television after-effects from OU/UT's departure are realized, and KU+OSU find that a reduced/probationary payout from a Power 5 conference matches what they are currently getting in the greatly diluted B12, they will be gone, gone gone.

The ACC distributes about $32M per school. If the new B12 is found to be worth only $20M per, and the ACC/P12 will match that offer, how long do you think KU will hang around? That's right, zero seconds.

I think we just need 2 more B12 schools to bounce, then everything will go nuts. Of course more will be better. They'll probably try to expand to 16 to overcompensate for the loss in quality. With KU gone, we'll have a chance to ride in w/ Navy.

Every current Big 12 school is looking for a landing spot. None of them have found one. Exit fees in the Big 12 equal the previous two years in tv revenue, approximately $75mm. The Big 12 gets around $150mm when OU and UT leave. The Big 12 has been very consistent and firm that there will be no negotiations on exit fees.

After the $75mm exit fee, schools then must pay entrance fees to their prospective conference, it is steep. Entrance fees are generally paid with reduced distribution of tv revenue over several years. The move puts schools at a financial disadvantage that can last over a decade.

With all of that, the smart move would have been for any Big 12 schools with a shot of moving, to join together and leave prior to the addition of four schools. Had the Big 12 dropped to six schools it would have dissolved and there would be no exit fees.

Interestingly enough, the B1G and SEC are the only fbs conferences without exit fees. Schools are free to move at will, there is no risk of that happening.

Wichita State- Best case scenario, we end up in the Big East. But for some reason no one in the WSU community is willing to give up the football ghost, even though for the last 35 years there has been no solid idea put forth of how to seriously get the ball rolling on all that. So there would be some strange discontent in the Big East

KU- They literally have no way to get out of the Big 12 and are stuck for life. They aren’t going to like it and will be even more annoying/pissy every last second that they are stuck for all eternity

K-State- No one really cares

I don't think KU is stuck in the Big 12 but they may well be in it forever. Until there is some evidence that their Athletic Department has become competent and their football program has at least reached some level of mediocrity, KU has no chance at the Big1G.

KU, OSU, and probably WVU are working day and night to find a way out of the B12. They care absolutely nada about a couple million in exit fees (after divided across all affected members).

Of course they're working to find a way out. The problem for them is, nobody wants them. If the ACC wanted WVU, they'd have them already. If the BIG wanted KU or ISU, they'd have them. If the PAC wanted KU or OSU, they'd have them. All of those schools, and probably others, were doing everything they could do bounce as soon as OU and UT announced their departures.

Sure, something could change down the road, but the XII isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The bigger better conferences do not want those teams. They are all in small markets without bigtime football and not in recruiting hot beds. They can work day and night all they want.

Conversations are happening behind the scenes. How much less money than Oregon State is Oklahoma State willing to take? None? Ok. Not interested.

If it costs $300mm for Kansas to either refurbish or build a new stadium, plus much more to bring other facilities in line with other P-5 conferences, then $75mm exit fees from the Big 12, then $50-80mm entry fees to the B1G, what would be left to actually field a team? PAC fees would be less, but when you are north of a half a billion to jump conferences, I don't see how you do it. Oklahoma State is in much better shape as they have top notch facilities and only pay exit and entrance fees around $200mm.

Kansas is screwed because for decades they forsake all other athletic facilities for basketball. The B1G, snobby as they are, have minimum standards for all facilities, especially from a school that wants to join, but has some of the worst venues of all P-5's.
