OU is 8th in the first poll.

Cincy needs a miracle to get in the top 4.

they are behind one loss Alabama, Oregon and Ohio State. A one loss Michigan team will be ahead of them, as will an undefeated OU OR 1 loss OSU or Baylor. A one loss Georgia will still be ahead of them and perhaps even a 2 loss Alabama.

The Bearcats need first to beat Tulsa, South Florida, SMU, East Carolina and then probably Houston. No lock there.

Then they need Oregon to lose. Not a stretch.

They also need Wake Forest to lose, which is by far the most likely outcome of the ones they need.

They have to just pray a 2 loss Alabama is behind them. If Bama beats Georgia then it’s locked both will be ahead of an undefeated Cincy.

But their biggest problems lie in the Big10 & 12. An undefeated OU jumps Cincy. But so does a one loss OSU or Baylor as both would have glitzy wins over OU. For instance Baylor wins out over TCU, OU, KSU & Texas Tech then gets OSU in the B12 Championship. But if OSU does the same thing they’ll jump Cincy. Probably need OU to lose and Baylor AND OSU to lose again.

Hell, if OU beats Iowa State at home, goes to Baylor and wins then loses at OSU close then goes to the B1G Championship and gets revenge on OSU, I promise you OU will be close to passing Cincy.

But then you’ve got the B1G. Their best chance is for OSU to run the table and hope they can leapfrog a one loss Michigan State.

Anything is possible but I wouldn’t give them a 1-20 chance.

And it's no surprise that the CFP is as poorly done as the NCAA tournament. The only difference is basketball doesn't only put four teams in.
That's kinda true. The BIGGEST difference to me, is that it's the only sport that you can start the year with literally zero chance to play for a title. Every other major sport, no matter how improbable, you actually have a chance. If you don't lose a game in basketball or baseball ... you are a champion. It's in your hands. In College football ... don't lose a game and you still wont get a chance unless you are predetermined to be worthy enough to play for a title. The school/Team has no control over it.

But it would be the same poor system if they allowed 8 teams in. Those of my age remember when there were only 16 teams in the tournament. Then as soon as they expanded it, there were people saying "let every team in!".
All rankings are fraudulent. The only true and accurate system would be built on a numerical equation where points are earned for victories over equal opponents. The words "eye test" should be banned from the english language!

College football not my thing because it is so political, and really, only a team or maybe 2, at most, each year has a chance to win the Championship. Talent is just stockpiled, unused, and I'd rather watch paid players play on Sunday or Monday. However, at least with 8 teams, you'd have a winning team from B10, ACC, SEC, PAC, and B12, along with a Top 5-10 team from the other conferences, along with a couple of at large teams. There should never be a Top 5-10 undefeated team left out.

I agree. I think of how much I complain about the blue bloods in basketball being pre-season ranked on little other than their name. At least enough games are played that SOME semblance of order occurs. Now think about football; since it is obviously running the dollars in college sports, those same TV outlets paying so much money DON'T want their investment to miss out. So, they are ranked high, play few meaningful games, W-L means little, and get to sit at the championship table just for those reasons alone. Totally worthless.

Preview of the AAC basketball conference, along with college basketball betting odds to win, including Houston, Memphis and Wichita State.

                            November 8, 2021

"With the 2021-22 college basketball season rapidly approaching, it’s time we show some love to the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Historically one of the most overlooked conferences in all of the NCAA, AAC basketball demands attention this season. The conference is headlined by two top-15 teams in the preseason polls. Houston and Memphis both looked nearly unbeatable to end of the 2020-21 season. Add in the notoriously underrated Wichita State Shockers and SMU Mustangs, and this conference will no doubt be producing fireworks all season....

                            Odds to Win AAC
                            • Houston (+250)
                            • Memphis (+250)
                            • Wichita State (+550)
                            • UFC (+750)
                            • Cincinnati (+750)
                            • SMU (+800)
                            • Tulsa (+3500)
                            • Temple (+4000)
                            • Tulane (+7000)
                            • East Carolina (+12500)
                            • South Florida (+12500)
AAC Basketball Preseason Betting Odds Reactions
The preseason AAC college basketball betting odds suggest a race between Houston and Memphis at the top. Wichita State, Central Florida, Cincinnati and SMU are not too far behind. Six teams in the conference have lower than 10-1 odds to win the conference....

Memphis and Houston Basketball Reign Supreme
Both Memphis and Houston had impressive postseason runs and will look to keep that momentum going into the new season. Memphis was left out of the NCAA tournament last year, after finishing third in the AAC. They put together an impressive run to win the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), winning three of four games by double-digits. Houston received a second seed in the NCAA tournament and got all the way to the Final Four. Unfortunately, they ran into a buzzsaw in the eventual champion in Baylor....

                            Wichita State Ready to Pounce?
Last season’s regular-season champions have the third-best odds in the conference and only lost two of their top six scorers from last season. With two more three-star recruits coming to Wichita, in guard Jalen Ricks and center Kenny Pohto, they will certainly be able to add even more firepower to an already good team. Both players are big for their positions, with Ricks at 6-6 and Pohto at 6-11, so they at the very least will be able to wreak havoc with their length. Although they played in fewer games last season than most teams in the conference thanks to implications from COVID-19, the Shockers only dropped two conference games. We will quickly see just how good Wichita State can be as they have tough matchups, with Missouri, Oklahoma State and Kansas State, before they play their first conference game....

                            Potential Value of SMU
SMU had another disappointing season last year and has been mediocre at best since finishing on top of the conference two out of three years from 2014-16. The Mustangs only lost two players, in guard Tyson Jolly and forward Ethan Chargois, who averaged more than 20 minutes per game last season and bring in a hell of a recruiting class. According to 247 Sports, SMU brings in the 33rd-ranked recruiting class in the nation and the second in AAC basketball, only behind Memphis. Not only do they bring in four-star forward Stefan Todorovic to headline their 2021 recruiting class, but they also get some key transfers including the transfer of former four-star forward Tristan Clark from Baylor. With plenty of new talent and not much lost from last season, the Mustangs could certainly be a dark horse in the AAC race."

They lead the Aces 31-22 at half.
