Those players need to do better.

    • I can’t tell exactly which stat Taylor is quoting but Shockm noted that we were #244 in rebounding rate back on 1/30. He was even so kind to list the total number of teams (350) ranked.

Thanks to Shockm I’m fully converted to the belief that rebound rate is the best stat to track to determine a teams rebounding prowess or lack thereof.

So, we’re now surprised because...344 is bigger than 244?

Defensive rebounding isn’t hard. It doesn’t require some skill provided by god. It’s as simple as turning around and putting a body on someone out every single possession. Until we do that we’ll continue to struggle.
Sounds like the coach isn’t getting through to the players.

But you know, he’s letting Dawgs be Dawgs. Effort into the little things isn’t necessary.

        • Our guys just don’t have the instincts to rebound - which includes boxing out. Even CJ, who they talk about being a rebounder, doesn’t really box out his guy - he just puts in more effort going up for the ball. When I watch other teams collapse into the lane after a shot, there’s usually only 1 guy on our team boxing out . The other thing I noticed with Temple is their hands are very active on rebounds. As soon as the ball comes down, they had 2-3 guys slapping at the ball when it was being grabbed by our players. We gotta be stronger when grabbing rebounds. These were definitely traits that were hammered home by 3G.

A few minutes ago on the pre-game show, Bob Hull said he's watched a lot of basketball through the years and we simply don't have good rebounders (lack of instinct, not lack of effort). He said we should continue to work on it (don't dwell on it), but focus on keeping turnovers low and improving other parts of our game. He's very high on Jaden Seymour (compared him to Cleanthony Early), Chaunce Jenkins and Trevin Wade... he said they were showing a lot in practice and are very good players.

            • Bob Hull said he discussed rebounding with a couple of the coaches on the flight down, and with a chuckle, said that he doesn't think our rebounding is gonna get better.

I find it hard to believe that GGG recruited guys who are not good rebounders, or at least had potential to be good rebounders.

He did recruit Udeze and Chandler. GGG was a terrific coach, but is prone to some misses along the way.

He recruited everyone on this team but you're right, there have been misses.

And those misses resulted in a Top 40 Rebounding Team 17 out of 18 years. Lots of excuses. NO ACCOUNTABILITY. which is what GM preached all the time

Maybe they became great rebounders at his practices.

Prone to misses but a Top 40 Rebounding Team 17 out of 18 years.

I would like to believe, but I doubt GGG could turn Udeze and Chandler into good rebounders.

Now that is a quote that worries me regarding that coach but I need more context.

Boxing out is not about instinct or talent. Boxing out is about turning around and putting a body on a someone.
