  • A few thoughts:

I actually sat through half time. That will never happen again.

I can't figure out why those in charge can't recognize that their game production is energy sucking. Paul was not direct about the problem in his article, but he was 100 percent on the mark in his shockwaves blog. GM showed his sensitive side after the game by calling out the article.

I have no idea what the team does to get students to the games now, but I was there for Randy and Mark and I can tell you that Mark was relentless in his pursuit of students. He wanted it full.

    I absolutely love Stutz

I love Kyles as well so I hope he doesn't let GM destroy him for good

I wish Rags wasn't such a complete attitude, but I think that is why he has such a motor so you got to let it go.

Ben smith made some plays down the stretch

    TM was really good

The bench is short. I got to think we have more upside with an energetic press. Playing not to lose

The timing of the shot was bad and if it was a 2 point shot, even worse. I cringed and hoped it wouldn't be the start of ruining the evening. Probably the only thing questionable GS did in an absolutely great second half. Thank You Garrett for your play and leadership. :yahoo::applouse:

      • Kyles played 24 minutes but only shot it once. So I am not sure that GM has anything to do with that. He also had 3 boards, 1 steal and 1 assist.

I also find it interesting that Carl Hall only played 15 mintes, and Ben Smith played 33 minutes. Does anyone have an insightful analysis?

Perhaps we can do some chants while the promos are going. Some standard Shocker ones of course, but I'm thinking more along the lines of:

          NO MORE PRO-MOS, clap,clap,clap-clap-clap
          LET THE BAND PLAY, clap,clap,clap-clap-clap
having an unofficial kazoo night (vuvuzelas are too big) and make an unholy racket during every timeout

          I can dream can't I?
ShockBand, you know I respect your knowledge and insight, so ask this question. Why is it over the last few home games the 2nd half "under 4" media timeout is the designated low brass cheer song, no matter the game circumstances?

To me, if you're incapable of determining when it's proper to play that, or you're too lazy to change, it's time to put someone else in charge.

Don't misunderstand me...the talent of our band is fantastic. I could listen to them for hours at a time. But the management sometimes drives me crazy. For an example, see the Illinois State game. Dreadful.

I like the World Cup Stadium horn.

Can you imagine 10,000 of these babies going off at the same time in a small arena?

Oh baby, that's what I talking about.

(Yes, I know that it is probably against the rules.)
I was thinking kazoos because they're small enough to sneak in, yet enough going at one time would be completely obnoxious. The vuvuzelas, well, a variant of the old line comes to mind, "Excuse me sir, is that a vuvuzela in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

Don't understand the rebounding thing. If Garrett doesn't get the board we don't seem to get the board. We need more than 1 guy hitting the boards.
Last night I didn't quite see it like this. Garrett was a beast on the boards and give him a lot of credit. But for many of his rebounds (all but one were defensive) there were a teammate or two who were going to get it if he didn't. Doesn't mean the rest of the team doesn't need to come at rebounds harder.

              • At one point, when the team made a nice run, the crowd was going nuts and ISU called a timeout. I was sitting right behind the band and they all started yelling to play the Low Brass Cheer. It went off and the student section and the arena just went nuts. It was so loud and the perfect timing. Then they went to an ad and the stupid dance cam and the energy in the building just disappeared. I get that ads pay the bills, but at times like that, where the atmosphere is electric, you have to just forget the ads and figure out another time to drop them in. Let the band keep playing and keep the energy going. At that point, we could have just done Low Brass Cheer the entire timeout and people would have yelled along the entire time.

No idea why the "under 4" timeout is Low Brass Cheer. It shouldn't have a set time. It should just flow organically. That's all I'm going to say, so as to not sound disparaging to anyone.

Audio/Video team and Marketing Management is the problem. Example: After a huge play last night, the band did do the low brass cheer off the cuff and the place was going bananas...it was then cut off to do the F#&*ing grasshopper dance-cam on the big screen...in which everyone sat down for fear of being the guy who can't dance.

There is a sponsored something for every timeout now. About 2 of 16 of them are funny or worth the time. I'm sure we're making money off of all of them, but it costs us the college basketball environment we used to have.

They play "popular" music over the audio system that only about 4% of the crowd even knows or appreciates. And also our wonderful media productions that just kills the crowd when the team is welcomed out on the court.

                  • I thought a key to the victory was Printy going 0-5 from three and not scoring a point. It seem like against us he always drills two or three 3-pt daggers. I don't remember the match-up, but was David a big part of that?

Everyone might have a legitimate reason from time-to-time to miss a game, and that doesn't bother me. There are clearly a multitude of more important things in folks' lives that should take precedence over a basketball game.

What I'm most irked about is what's going on in section 108. There are several rows where there are consisitently 6 or 8 or 10 seats in a row that are empty. These are corporate seats going unused. You can say whatever about how they have donated to the program/we need them/blah-blah-blah but I say BS. If the tickets are going to be unused, give those folks upper bowl, the endzone etc. They don't go anyway, they sometimes give them to people who buy cars or furnaces or their golf buddies.

If nothing else, have an assistant AD or marketing person go up to row 30 and invite some of those people to to move down at the first media timeout. I promise you the people who are yelling their lungs out from the nosebleed sections will represent.

BTW, I'm not doing this for me. Our seats are great and we've been to nearly every home game since the days when we had to camp out in tents for tickets and ... gasp ... pay for student tickets.

Perhaps the Coaching staff did not feel like Carl Hall matching up with Carl Richard was an advantageous one for the Shocks. Now what portion of the game that would have been the matchup I can't really say. INS Carl is much more comfortable and capable of playing form the outside-in than is WSU Carl.

Did not know that. Been a tough year for the Geese in the injury/illness department. Thanks for the info.

"Popular" to who? The 14 and under crowd and gangstas? I simply can't believe that game production is so bad. The big video board is the worst investment the athletic department has ever made (considering the way it is used). The crowd was in a frenzy after the Shocks had a nice run of steals, run-outs, and layups. ISU-B calls a timeout and the video and music suck everyone back into their chairs. Un-freakin-believable.

To those in charge - take a step back and watch what's happening. You're failing.

                              • The BatWu video has been gone over and over again, but its timing is also horrible. The players are shown entering the tunnel, rallying each other up, the crowd gets energized to cheer them on, the players are ready to get out on the court, but no.....STOP. It's the BatWu video. The crowd quites (or moans) and we wait.

If this video must be shown, do it earlier, please.
