Reading this post gives a glimpse into older generations. This has nothing to do with entitlement it’s a disconnect between equating college athletics and a job and to take it a step further, budgets and spending. This athlete shows up to “work” in a dump every day and the “CEO” shows up in a new car. Try to see things through more than one lens.

Socialism? LOL So if the coach works for University that can't afford to get new facilities, he should drive a dump? Then you and the other athletes would be happy?
The Coach pays for his car, house, kids education, kids clothes, etc. etc. etc.
I didn't have a nice car in college. I had a job, and worked for my college education. When I moved out of my parent's house, I lived in a dump too and barely could afford it.

In response to the Rainbolt talk, I know that Coach works hard also away from his office, and with hard work often times come rewards (aside from '16s correct description of the Wheels).

But to keep it simple, without people giving money to athletics, there are no scholarships or sports. Nobody (or better yet, not even close to enough) cares enough to pay to support the track team via watching them compete, like men's basketball. And that's the case for almost every single sport not named men's basketball (and football but that's irrelevant to this discussion). It's a privilege, not a right, period, end of discussion, to participate in these sports and receive ANY assistance.

I am hopeful these trends of disconnect ease as we get away from the election, but I fear they won't. If they don't, I fear those that give are simply going to take their toys and go home.

I can only speak for myself as someone who's pretty heavily invested as a corporate donor, and to a much lesser extent as a personal supporter, I don't want or need thanks or acknowledgement for what we do to support things, at all. But by the same token, what I absolutely do NOT need or want is to be lectured that I'm not doing enough or that my giving is unappreciated. I love doing what I can do, but I can exist without it as well, and I can't be alone in my thinking.


Getting back to the "news coming" thread, pay close attention this week. There may be some clarity forthcoming, perhaps from an angle not completely anticipated.

Please reread my post and note the quotation marks around work and CEO. I was pointing out that the athlete had a misunderstanding of how college athletics worked and simply showed their line of thinking. I was not taking their side.
