Which - when you really think about it - is just stupid. I get the whole “market value” thing, but we (people) are so screwed up that we’re now willing to pay for tickets/shoes/clothing, etc. which creates this market value. While, at the same time, ***** and complain about the cost of eggs or whether we should be paying off student loans.

      Good for Fred.

      Too bad for society.

You just wonder when the professional sports salary bubble will hit and teams start defaulting on contracts. Same with the NIL collective nonsense over paying for hacks that give you zero to little return on investment.

When the bubble bursts, is that called Mutually Assured Destruction?

It will burst when millions of people quit consuming content, be it tv, internet articles, etc. sports drives viewers, viewers drive ad revenue, ad revenue pays the bills. It’s not the tickets, beer, hotdogs, and popcorn that makes the money; all that is just part of the experience, which is why some teams are able to offer that stuff pretty much at cost. It’s product placement and ad placement that is paying players. When NIL balances, it will be due to advertising money evening out the huge expenses.

              • Hoop Dirt - Heiar named Head Basketball Coach at D1 JUCO Mineral Area College

MAC Athletic Director Jim Gerwitz says he’s excited about this opportunity for Mineral Area College Basketball.

“Greg brings a wealth of knowledge on the court and off the court in recruiting, including having coached a NJCAA National Championship team,” he said.

Heiar’s previous assistant coaching assignments include Loras College (2002-2003), Chipola College (2003-2004), University of Southern Mississippi (2009-2011), Wichita State University (2011-2017), Louisiana State University (2017-2020), East Tennessee State University (2020-2021). His head coaching stints include Chipola College (2004-2009), Northwest Florida State College (2021-2022), and New Mexico State University (2022-2023).

Heiar’s lengthy career has not been without controversy, but Gerwitz said the hiring committee carefully considered the entirety of Coach Heiar’s college coaching career, contacted past administrators, and received overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding his ability to develop student-athletes, promote success both in the classroom and on the court, and create a championship culture that will provide a springboard for players to be successful at Mineral Area College and beyond.

It was one game, but yes, he played decent. I am confident his attitude and douchery will even out.
