  • Our obvious biases aside, I cant imagine what Murray St. thinks about this whole thing. Sitting in their position, match ups against LBSU or Nevada would be terrible. The win really doesn't add much more to their resume. LBSU's and Nevada's RPIs are much lower currently, will almost certainly be much lower then ours come Selection Sunday, and neither will provide the potential for a top 50 win. If Murry St. wins it will only look like a win against another team that wouldn't have gotten an at-large in the first place. Heaven forbid a loss which could give the committee every reason to drop them several spots in the seed line.

I don't understand the logic. I don't like to get wrapped up in the rankings but WSU very well could be ranked by the time of the Bracket Busters. We are considered much more solidly in the tournament as of today then any other team in the field, excluding Murray St., Creighton, and St. Mary's. Only thing I can point to is those teams should win their leagues, but we are tied at the top of the Valley. It is honestly mind blowing. If Creighton doesn't draw St. Mary's and we don't draw Murray St. this should absolutely be the last year in the Bracket Busters for the Valley or it will only add to the reasons why Elgin should be fired.

    • Long Beach State has what would seem a couple of nice wins - Pitt and Xavier. However, Pitt has collapsed in Big East play so that win has really lost its luster. Also, the Xavier win was shortly after the brawl between Xavier and Cincy. So Xavier played Long Beach State without a starting forward and guard.

The remaining LBS non conference wins are against Auburn, Idaho, Boise State, and two non division one schools. I just don't see why this team is getting the respect it is by the analysts.

Personally I think if they send Long Beach State to Creighton - Creighton will slaughter them.

Sheesh, is it time for the tinfoil hats? What the heck are we missing that ESPN and CBS appear to see so clearly?

          • Long Beach State doesn't even get mentioned in their own Nonsense BCS Power Pyramid? Nevada gets a mention outside of the actual pyramid. What the heck? I hope that LBS and Nevada get crushed between now and the end of the month.

            • Nevada only has two more games prior to the annoucement and they are on the road to the 2nd and 6th place teams in their conference. These won't be easy games.

Long Beach State has one away and one at home against the second place team.

I think the mouthbreathing writers just keep reading each other's articles and parroting the same drivel without doing any research of their own.

Let's just hope whoever is in charge of the pairings has put in at least 20% of the time and effort that Reaper has.

                • The most important thing the Shocks can do at this point it to take care of business against Evansville on Wednesday at Koch Arena and Drake in Des Moines on Saturday. If we can do it in convincing fashion great, but just win and let the chips fall were they may. If we still end up with a team like Nevada then we will just have to go to Reno and make a clear and convincing statement when that game rolls around.

                  • well, as a small bonus...at least we aren't being lumped in as a midmajor in all this...

                    • You know what, as of right now, we're in the tournament. Maybe we need to drop the 'respect' issue and be happy with a 'lesser' opponent if that's what happens. Which would we prefer, a loss at Murray St. or a win someplace else?

                      • Maybe ESPN and CBS both thought we weren't even in Bracketbusters?

Seriously, wtf is that all about? Nevada? NEVADA?

Where did all our love go?

One of the last undefeated teams in road games
                        An RPI in the mid-20's
On the cusp of being ranked
Tied for first in the 7th or 8th rated conference

Does our 17-3 record look weaker than Nevada's 14-3 record? I'm honestly a bit shellshocked seeing this mindless garbage spewed out by Katz and Parrish. At times, they were some of our biggest fans. And now we aren't even on NEVADA'S level?

This would be a monumental screwjob. I definitely agree. If they miss the boat on this one (ESPN that is), then this needs to be our last Bracketbuster.

                        ... No really, deuces.

                          How about you reverse it?

What about a win at Murray State or a loss at No-namer RPI-hitter State?

Of course, we would prefer a win at Murray State over either of the two choices you put on the table. But, I agree that wherever they send us we need to make a statement in a loud and clear manner.

                            • My fear is that since these are ESPN guys making these statements and the BB is their tournament that these are the top match ups they are looking at (for whatever reasons, I guess they think they make for better TV ratings).

I guess it means there is a good chance we could end up at ORU or Iona (hopefully still on espn2 and not espnU or just on espn3). If we don't get Murry St. then I guess I would prefer ORU. At least it would be a possible road trip for many Shocker fans.

I've been feeling that way today too after seeing the ESPN people pushing other teams to the top instead of us that we are going to get a little screwed and I would much rather play at Oral Roberts than Iona.
