Wilt was at Kansas for three years lettering in basketball and track. He drove a top of the line GM car while at KU not a Bentley. Phog coached him as a freshman (Wilt led the freshman to a win against the varsity), then the Board of Regents forced Phog to retire. Wilt did not like/get along with Dick Harp; rumor was he would not have come to KU if he had known Phog would be forced to retire.

IMO Wilt is the Greatest Athlete of all time not just the greatest basketball player - a real life Superman.

Is "forced to retire" correct? Or did the Board of Regents apply the mandatory retirement policy, that applied to everyone, to Phog? Do you mean "forced" because they would not honor his request to waive the policy?

Lew Alcindor unquestionably had better footwork, and could out-dip the Big Dipper. But you did add a qualifier...

                    • I'm clearly somewhere between Shocker1976 and everyone else. I think Gregg's best days, at least with our program, are behind him. He's still better than 90% of his competition, but he is resting on his laurels. Laurels he earned.

Still not Sherfield, and the poster who complained about ancient reminiscences was exactly right, because this thread has become remarkably tangential even by Shockernet standards, which is hard to imagine -- but I do share your amazement at Wilt's athletic prowess and versatility.

We? You got a mouse in your pocket?

So in your opinion this same squad plus Bilau and a freshman Ja'Dun Michael, running HCGM's same sets and defenses, are the keys to a conference championship and a strong NCAA seed? OK. Hope you're right.

And, for the record, I f$cking loathe KU.
