I think there are lots of great reasons why UAB at IBA is excellent for WSU, but saying the turnout of this game makes a difference about future WSU events at IBA just isn't right.
It's like saying if you ever want to be served our super popular T-Bone steak in the future, you better order the Salisbury steak tonight and show the chef his appreciation. What, really? I'm the customer and I love your T-Bone steak, but screw your patty with gravy, unless I feel like it. I ain't gonna be threatened into eating Salisbury steak.
Other than that weak argument that not showing well this year means we couldn't sell out Duke in 30 seconds flat, next year, I'm still strongly with the IBA crowd.Last edited by Kung Wu; November 13, 2011, 09:18 PM.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

I do sympathize with the ticket prices situation. However, they have started cutting at them a bit in the last week. Regardless, I would hope that the average fan sees this as a great chance to see WSU play outside of an otherwise sold out Koch Arena. No, it's not WOW, but WOW will never get here without NOW. NOW meaning you have to invest now.
And @Kung Wu:, this is how it works. You may not believe it, but this game's sales will most definitely have impacts on future games with higher-end opponents. If you don't believe me, I'll link you with an article to today's Wichita Eagle, regarding the AD's thoughts on sales for this game and its future implications.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

They are guaranteed $125,000 if they do no promotion at all. Spending $30,000 on promotion actually makes it a net $95,000 take.
But they realize that a crowd of 7200 would kill any chances of any promoter taking a financial gamble to try and bring a BCS team to IBA to play WSU.
Just listen to the first 5 minutes of the podcast of the coaches show on Monday or read today's paper:
" ...WSU athletic director Eric Sexton wants fans to think of tickets to the Intrust Bank Arena men's basketball game as an investment.
It's not just about that Nov. 25 game with Alabama-Birmingham. It's about future scheduling opportunities...... "

I still think we'll sell this out though so it's probably a moot point. There's not 14k that are going to support the reigning NIT champs in what will probably be the biggest non-con game of the year?Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

This could be a great event and the beginning of a tradition. Having the game the day after Thanksgiving is a good timing. Many people have family time together during the holiday week, and what better way to spend it. We have SHOCKER BASKETBALL against a quality opponent in the downtown arena; what a great way to spend some "family time" together over the holiday. With the revitalization of downtown Wichita and the upgrading of old town, this COULD become something we would look forward to every year - something to plan on doing just as the trip to St. Louis at the beginning of March.
WE JUST NEED PEOPLE TO SHOW UP AND BE INVOLOVED.

Except just as many people will probably be out of town for Thanksgiving as well. That, and some MTE's will be going on so some years we won't be able to pull off this time slot at IBA.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

I was thinking there was one game in between. I sadly may have to back off my sell-out prediction. On the other hand we are reigning NIT champs and probably the best non-con game in Wichita is going to be at IBA -- why wouldn't 14k show up?

UAB is a must win in my opinion. Creighton plays them this week and I would hate for CU to beat them and us lose to them in a weak showing by our fan base.
You can bet at the end of the season the basketball world will be judging our resume in part based upon what the result of this game is. Get out and support the team if you want an nCaa bid.
