  • I like the idea of getting the students involved on a big scale. Maybe that would go a long way towards getting more students in the stands come game time.

A few years ago they did a red carpet thing where someone (Greg Williams?) stopped every 4th or so player and asked them for a sound bite type thing.

As I remember, that didn't go over very well, but I could be wrong or just imparting my own feelings.

Hey, if it gets people involved, I could care less if I like it.

That's the year people were leaving before the scrimmage started because the intro took forever and was boring. I don't think anyone told the kids they may be asked questions. They all looked confused.

      • We don't need someone like Jamie Arnold coming out in a Superman Cape again.

Let it be what it is. Introduce and Showcase the team. I could careless if someone can act or sing. I am looking to see their real talent. Can they drain a 3, slam with authority, rebound, play defense, etc.

Getting the students involved would be great. Feed them, give them something for attending, etc. This is how you get the Shocker Maniacs to attend.

Maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't have been quite so boring IF the sound system actually worked so it would be possible to hear what was being siad. It wasn't,still isn't, so it was a wasted effort.

Was that the sound system or just they incomprehensible Greg Williams?

            • If the NCAA hadn't screwed with the exhibition and scrimmage rules so bad (thanks UCONN and Rudy Gay) I would think a 20 minute team vs alumni scrimmage followed by an intrasquad scrimmage would be interesting.

I would love to see former Shockers like Paul Miller (unless conflicts with his current pro career prevent) go up against Garrett Stutz.

              • The best course of action for WSU is to keep the "event" as simple and to the point as possible - stick with basketball. For those guys that want a big time event let me make a few points about what is required for these events to work:

                1) the stadium needs to be full and buzzing
                2) you need thousands of students
                3) you need to spend money on big time production
                4) the athletes must be viewed as gods by those in attendance so that any C- joke is treated as an A+ joke

Without these elements the skits and interlude material better be perfect. Otherwise the program comes off as a second rate program.

I am optimistic that this year's madness will be my best bang for the buck since the the full scrimmage at the Kansas Coliseum in Turgeon's third year.

                  +1

It is much harder to screw up just sticking to basketball, and frankly, it is what I would prefer to see anyway.

                  • Quite honestly, I'm not that big a fan of madness basketball. Kind of like watching a McDonalds All-Star game. Doesn't really tell you anything.

As far as the late date, maybe Gregg wanted some time with all the newcomers before their debuts.

As far as recruits, they can only be in one place at a time. Being later eliminates any conflicts.

Like I said, don't care much about Madness. Gives you no indication on what's to come later in the year.

No, but it is basketball. And it is Shocker basketball. And that's something we haven't seen in 7 months.

I think there is a little confusion here. That is a picture of the consolation ring that ku got lost year after they were defeated by VCU.

                          • KU had a skit were Barry Hinson is knocked out by Victor Ortiz in a boxing ring.

How are we going to top that?
