The Roos were beating us back on transition... If they can do that, I hate to think what UAB and LSU will be like...

Quite honestly PJ is the only true talent on this team and he doesn't exactly appear to have his head in the game at this point in his senior campaign.

        MB - One word: overachiever
Gal - Wonder if he'll ever grasp the American game
WP - Wasted scholly. Roster spots for good, hard working kids short on talent should be filled by walkons.
GH - Probably better pass on this one as not to offend anyone.
JT - In the midst of the team's brutal start to a season showing the most promise.
Ellis - Potential is there just not ready to contribute. The fact he started speaks volumes about the rest of the team.
Butler - If he's got game it's time to show it.
MG - Total headcase right now. I hate to throw out the dreaded 4-letter F word (rhymes with South Pacific island).
RC - Would make the perfect 6th man.
PT - Probably playing up to his potential.

Right now it's time to believe in Marshall's GM capabilities. Two years from now (yes I know that sounds like an eternity) this team will have a completely different look and feel to it. Keep the faith Shocker Nation.

          • The one that really urinates me off is the PJ auditioning for the NBA crap.
Here's the breaking news - he isn't NBA material. Not even 'D' league meat.
Be yourself and do what you are capable of and forget the crap certain people are troweling out. You are starting to embarrass yourself and the team.
Shooting 8-46 from trey land in two consecutive games is hard to fathom. Sub, we're back to that shoot off again. I won't make anybody forget Larry Legend, but 15-46 left handed is not a problem. No problem at all. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

I love it! I prefer for GM to act like this however. Or should I have waited to post this when we are 8-10 :D

                • What a pathetic game.. poorly executed and poorly played. Refs sure didn't help any. They definitely jobbed us but I'm not blaming the L on them. We had a chance to win by 20+ but instead give them their only second win ever against us.

8th place in the Valley may be more realistic than originally thought.

I'm with ya. I don't understand how D1 players can continue to shoot this poorly. I'm pretty sure I could shoot a better percentage than that from half court. I'd have to use my right hand on that one though.

The refs weren't great by any means but the Shox lost this one on their own. Very lathargic in the 2nd half. I don't remember who said it but I agree that the UMKC zone did kind of lull the offense to sleep. There was no movement and all the passes did was move the ball from 30ft from the basket to another spot on the floor 30ft from the basket. The offense needs to be more aggressive and do more of what UMKC did in the 2nd half. They started driving the ball and getting baskets and fouls inside. Then they started kicking it out off of those drives. When you pass the ball around the perimeter and don't even look inside it's hard to get everyone into a good flow and it's hard to get good quality looks from 3.

                        • I think we have the wrong combination of players and coach. That can happen with coaching changes and radically different coaching styles.

We thought Marshall could find a way to win because that was his track record. Marshall's recruiting (Griskenas and Ellis) was either an intention to move some personnel around or those were the best quality players still available in late April.

If Marshall's recruiting was to fill holes rather than just fill out a roster, the apparent intention was to use Braeuer, Mekel and Cooz at Guard. Use Griskenas, Ellis and Clemente at forward and use Durley and Thomasson at Center.

So far, Mekel is ineffective at PG, Couisnard is ineffective at SG. Plan B looks like an attempt to run a true 3-guard set which isn't working. So far this season Cooz is demonstrating that he's an undersized SF and that's pretty much the end of the story.

Griskenas and Ellis aren't contributing yet, so none of the apparent plans to patch the roster are working.

What WSU is left with is an undersized frontcourt and no productive backcourt bench. WSU is 6-deep. The only effective bench player is Durley.

Braeuer is the only player averaging more than 33% from 3, so teams are going to give WSU open looks from 3 and sag back on D to cut off interior entry passes. That could make for a tough year in the W/L columns.

Next year doesn't look much better. This year should show us that relying on new players can be disappointing. Next year's Sr's are Clemente, Griskenas and Preadom. Next year's Jr's are Mekel and Hawkins. It looks like there should be lots of minutes available for next year's underclassmen to get some experience.

I've grown to accept that there will be at least 2 rebuilding years.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

                          • Morning arrives and with it.........naaaaa. This is a bitter, brutal loss. After the piece in the paper about wanting the guys to get more scrapes and bruises we should have seen some effort, at the very least. In the second half there was not much hustle, from my recliner, anyway. Perhaps in person the view was different. The fact that we had no play to run with a full nine seconds to go is damning, as well. Anyway, we didn't play well, we didn't play hard, we didn't play smart. Hard-fought losses will continue to put people in the seats, these kinds of games will not. That's a simple fact. Turn to the recruiting page, because we WILL be signing more kids in the spring. That's a lock.

                            • Aargh, I don't know that next year will be nearly as bad as you might think. Durley will be able to move to the 4. Hannah is a point that will fit the system. We won't have nearly as high of expectations for Ellis. We'll have 2 7 footers (if EO shows up). Plus hopefully Murry and Kyles fit into the guard types that coach wants. There will probably be a couple more additions to the recruiting class, the way this season is going. Wholesale changes are more than likely to happen. We might lose up to 6 or 7 of the current players, IMO. No sense in keeping guys on scholarship that don't fit into the system and that really can't contribute.

Next year might be a young team, but they'll be good. With no height this year, and the lack of just about everything, it really couldn't get much worse. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the year goes, because this just ain't gonna hack it.

There are a lot of first-year players with potential next year, but they're still first-year players. That should pay dividends in 2 years, but there's the old saying, "the best thing about Freshmen is that they become Sophomores".
