They did have a couple chances late in regulation and in OT, just not the last sequence. Austin should have taken the last shot in regulation. Shaq hurried a short turn around late in the OT. Austin may be that guy in the future, Shaq is certainly capable. Somebody needs to step up. This is almost like the two teams prior to Fred and Ron that missed so many opportunities in close games.

            • At least we are still worthy of a court storming....

We also get our fair share of white/outs in road play.

            • This team has all the pieces. Just need to find an arrangement that works. As of right now the recent changes are taking us further away from peaking.

              • What's a bit disconcerting is that we haven't even hit our toughest 3 road games in the league - @ SMU, @ UCF, @ Cincy.

I'm no longer confident in this team playing well on the road. The Memphis game could end up defining the season.

I'm afraid that your assessment is dead on.

              • Shamet is not strong with the ball and has given up on the drive. The past few games have been physical, too physical, but we have responded poorly. We just aren't very tough or smart. Cincinnati is going to WSU this conference.

                • As many on here have said, I think the biggest (but not the only) problem is defense. We used to be so ratty on D it took a toll on opponents. Steals, deflections and, thus, easy buckets are almost nonexistent with this team. We just stand there and let teams take it to us. We never make anyone uncomfortable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember getting at least 2-3 easy buckets per game in years past.

                  • When you have three defensive mismatches on the court - a defense will look bad. We have to be able to switch 1-4 at a minimum.

That really was a fairly prissy little foul to call at the end of a game with lots of physical play. Is Shamet not allowed to hold rebound position? Maybe lawmaker got to the zebra crew.

Still, as others have noted, that last call is hardly why WSU lost. First half, 48 points and a smooth running offensive machine; Temple was fortunate to be within eight. Second half, start missing the same shots they were making earlier, fumble the ball away who knows how many times, etc., etc. What was most disappointing to me, though, was that in the second half Temple seemed to be the aggressor and the Shocks really didn't respond -- they just kept doing what they were doing as if eventually some of the shots would fall and everything would be okay. Can't count on that: shooting comes and goes, even for better offensive teams than WSU. But playing angry, especially on the road, has to be there every time.

We've seen slumps before, and WSU has the material to come back from this one. But (just to name a few random thoughts) Shamet has to quit trying to do too much, Frankamp has to be re-integrated into the offense, Reaves has to be able to play fewer than 3/4 of the team's minutes, Brown has to be at least a credible threat, and the team has to buckle down like they didn't have to do in the Valley.

Why does Reaves need to be able to play fewer than 3/4 of the team's minutes? Isn't that what a team's top players do in tough games?

                    • I’m not going to say a lot I am thinking because it’s just to ugly to write.

We continue to play some players that have no business being out there. Not going to name them because it’s not their fault GM continues to play them for extended periods while they lose leads and transfer momentum to the other team. We just don’t need to play 10 or 11 players every game. It seems obvious this team isn’t as deep as GM thinks it is.
