Last 10 games

2009-2010: 6-4
2010-2011: 6-4
80% player problem. 20% coach problem. Go get Cheddar Johnson.
Who recruited the players?
By the way, that stat is VERY disturbing.
Seems like Turgeon has a couple of lackluster finishes; what were his records on the last 10 games with the exception of 2006?
He is 6-4 in last 10 at A&M so far this year as well with alot of those wins VERY VERY close to being some bad losses.
It's a coaching issue.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
How much different would this season have been if these things would have happened?
*Stutz stepping up to be the starting center from Day 1.
*Blair and Durley playing PF and backing up Stutz at Center.
*Ellis and EO as the backup to the backup at both C and PF.
*Murry the SF from Day 1 and split time with Hatch, with a little Smith for fun.
*Kyles and Smith should have owned the SG spot.
*Ragland/Williams fighting for the starting PG spot.
Not to be too harsh, but we had two starters who should have been role players on a sure-fire, Top 25 NCAA Tournament team. Both would have been great situational players when you needed defense or a 3-ball. Someone around here alluded to this potential problem 3-4 years ago.
It seems that Marshall didn’t give Ragland the same pass on screw-ups from Day 1 as he did Murry. The team never hit their stride because maybe the roles weren’t clear enough. Then there’s the hero complex. Because there weren’t clear roles, everyone believes they were Superman from time to time.
It's 2005 all over again. We'll see if 2011-12 equates to 2006. Wouldn't that be sweet?
In hindsight, we would have lost 2 or 3 more games but probably would have been stronger at the end, but a lot of fans didn't have much patience with Stutz. And as you mentioned, coach had a short leash on Ragland and Demetric, when TM got a pass on mistakes just as frequent and important.
Agree with everything you said, except sometimes I thought nobody wanted to be a hero...
My dream was to have Stutz show up in November as the defacto center and no one would have been able to take the spot from him.
The biggest guy and the smallest guy played the biggest part in the outcome of this season.
And yes, there were times that no one wanted to be the hero, which is another one of the great pardoxes with this team. No one really good enough to be the hero but at times everyone thought they could do it.
I agree with DaShox. Marshall has had plenty of time to get us to the ncaa tournament. No more excuses.
Having said that I would NEVER WEAR THE CRIMSON AND BLUE. NEVER. I haven't watched a Ku basketball game in about 20 years (the last time they played WSU) and I am not going to start now (unless it is against WSU).
Right now WSU has 49 wins over the last two years. Has any other WSU coach won more games over a two year period?
Total Record
2009-10 25-10
2010-11 24-8
While I am disappointed that we didn't achieve our ultimate goal, this team succeeded in many ways and I am a proud Shocker fan.
We should have saved some of those wins for another year, because we could have gotten to the NIT for the last 2 years with less than 49 wins. What a bunch of overachievers our Shockers are.

What does Turgeon have to do with anything? He is currently the coach at Texas A&M University.
You were ok with comparing murry to liberty but now its different comparing Marshall first four years to turgeon's?
Uh, actually I wasn't. Reread that thread. I said the intent was good, but the comparison was a fail.
And besides, who cares what Turgeon did? Marshall is the coach now and if we start comparing him to Turgeon's accomplishments, he may just not stack up.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

There's a decent possibility that team chemistry might be a bit better next year. In some ways, this year's team seemed to lack chemistry.
Just as an example, Hatch has the reputation for being one of the hardest working practice players in many years. Durley does not have that reputation.
If different players among the leadership group had different attitudes toward practices, that can affect chemistry and confidence in teammates.
If there is a player who is inclined to try to score every time he touches the ball instead of continuing to play a team game, that can affect the rest of the team.
We'll learn more next year. Maybe the "hero complex" will disappear and the team will play the game the way the coaches designed it. All it takes is one player with "hero complex" and others start emulating that type of play.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
Why don't we let this season finish before we start worrying about next season? This team could win the NIT, or they could lose in the first round. A lot of inconsistency, but let's wait and enjoy the rest of this season before we worry about next season.

Interesting thread, and quite the difference a year makes. March 2011 Shocker fans are ready to run Marshall out of town with pitchforks, and February 2012 we're chasing after him with the keys to the city.
I think it's safe to say they exceeded expectations. I hope they're making a great NCAA run ... but even if we're out in the first round, it's been a great season from Marshall and the seniors, especially.
