  • FSU is as good an offensive team I've seen in years. Having said that, the stolen base in the top of the ninth with a six run lead was bs. Bush League bs.

Even Eduardo Perez commented "you don't do that in the big leagues".

      • I agree El Cid. As some Shocker fans paint the entire FSU fans base in a negative light because they feel they are too critical of our program, players and coaches, the same can be said with some FSU fans toward us.

I just don't know what some Shocker fans expected. Of course there is going to be a bias towards FSU. Not only is one of the announcers a former FSU player, his counterpart is an inexperienced college baseball tv analysts who knows a lot more about FSU than WSU.

Not to mention the east coast bias that we all know exists. FSU was the number 4 national seed, the number two ranked team in the nation, has the best hitter and player of the year candidate on their roster, leads the nation in hitting as a team and dominated their regional. And we should expect more air time toward us? Gimme a break people.

Congratulations on advancing. You are clearly the better team, I was just hoping we could have made the games more competitive. I have no doubt you will be able to take care of Stanford.

You don't in the big leagues.. however this is college baseball with aluminum bats with way too much on the line than hurting some feelings. FSU and WSU are well capable of putting up 6 runs in one inning. We've done it over 10 times this season alone.

          • A very good team got beat by an even better team. End of story.
As mentioned, Capra picked a really bad time to lay a turd and did he ever.
The A's obviously like Capra with such a high pick, but unless he develops some movement on his pitches, he will won't be around very long. His fastball is as flat as a 30 year old tire.
There are lots of guys out there who throw 87 and a lot more who throw 93. If upper 80's is all you've got, the ball had better be jumping on it's way to the plate or it will jump out of the park.
I know the $$$ will be good and he's as good as gone, but he would really benefit from another year with Brent. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

The big leagues don't get aluminum bats either.

Chew on these numbers a bit:

                Year to date:

WSU pitching 3.25 strikeouts walks ratio

                FSU pitching 1.94 k/walks

                WSU batting 1.44/1 k/bb

                FSU batting .98/1 k/bb (unreal)

                Super Regional

                WSU pitching 1.23

                FSU pitching 8.5

Now, there are a lot of factors. FSU plays a tougher schedule, but not as much as many are led to believe. FSU is rediculously patient. WSU did not compete very well yesterday. We are on the road, etc etc.

However, as David said a month or 2 ago, we're not that bad and they're not that good. I think everyone, most importantly our pitchers, have it in their head they have to be perfect to get a strike....and so does blue.

I want Anthony to throw smoke right down the pipe and if they hit it, so be it. I'm sick of these obscene differences between what happens every other day of the year and then when it counts.

                Mow 'em down Cappy.

                :wsu_posters: :goshocks: :posterwu: :posterwsu:

Udated WSU stats for the regional (including HBP)

WSU pitching k/bb 0.92 for a team that averages 3.45

FSU pitching k/bb 4/00 for a team that averages 1.94

Again, not the difference, but they weren't that good and we weren't that bad. However, they and blue got it in our heads before the series started that we had to be perfect to get a strike and we had to prove ourselves to get a strike. They had no such expectations.

                That is all.
You guys got hosed on a few strike calls today.. but so did we yesterday and Friday. Do you believe that strike 2 on Jack Posey in the 9th Friday was even close?

Just poor, poor umpiring all weekend long.

                • No.

Big League. NCAA. Little League. Bunt him to second if you want. You don't steal with a six run lead. That was a message from the FSU bench: nothing but gamesmanship.

                  • Ehh, not a big deal about the stolen base. The game was over and a liken' it to an alley-oop dunk a team who is ahead performs on the losing team to finish it off. I've seen the Shox do that in games.

In the grand scheme of things does it affect anything? FSU played well, dominated our pitching and deserved to advance. We could have played with them had our guys shown up. They beat us just as much as we stunk it up. Combine those two and you get dominated in which we did.

A top 5 pitching team gave up 32 runs in 3 games. All that needs to be said.

Well yes that's true. Maybe this year will be different. Quite a few teams have never won a CWS, we're just one of them as WSU was once. Well played series, we were fortunate to come out on top after going down 0-1.

I know you're upset you lost but I don't really see the need to call a kid like Buster "Jesus". I know espn is showing him a ton of love but he's a good kid and he's earned it both on and off the field. I know I'm not in friendly territory but it really surprised me today reading some of the comments here after very levelheaded discussion this weekend. I think FSU played well enough today to win but I tip my cap to WSU for a very well played and hard fought series. Could very well have ended the other way had AS had a bit better outing yesterday.

I've enjoyed speaking with everyone I met here in tally this weekend from WSU as well as the forum discussion this week. I'm sure we'll meet again in the upcoming years. Best of luck next season.
You are fine and some of our folks are out of line.

FSU just flat out beat our butts. The bottom line is we were not good enough.

I wish the Seminoles well, but I wonder what will happen, when the Noles run up against some fine pitching. We will see.

                      Good luck in Omaha.

Of course that wasn't a strike. However if Hoch didn't need to throw 6 strikes 2 batters early it never gets to that moment.

                        My points are as follows:

Was blue a little inconsistent this weekend? Yes

Were there some blown calls? Yes

Did WSU get the short end? I don't think there is any doubt

Did WSU lose because of this? Absolutely not. The best team won the series.

Were there expectations of how FSU plays going into the series imbedded into everyone's mind by coaches, media etc? Yes

Did our pitchers react by nibbling far too often and trying to make perfect pitches and make the situation even worse? Emphatically yes.

Was this the biggest reason for our failure? No, but it was second behind the talent of FSU.

Were our pitchers squeezed more than FSU? Imho, yes.

                        Congrats and good luck.

I think he has the Knoblauch syndrome. His command, year over year, has gone to hell in a hand basket.

I was really unhappy with Coach Stephanson for leaving him out there. Even this moron in Wichita, who was watching on TV, could tell that Capra did not have it. Alas, it did not make a difference, I suppose.

                            • If they still want to consider the 2nd slide in game one illegal that means they're up two to one on those plays since thier 3B did the same thing in the same inning of game one.

Booing Jones non stop because the guy playing 2nd screws up was lame.

Holt with the kick to Weber still pisses me off. They should have plunked him after that yesterday.

Stealing in the 9th was BS.

Now, most the FSU fans here have been nothing but fine, but I've never been much on FSU and after this weekend I may actually think less of the school.

And ESPN was brutal with the love fest of all things FSU. We put up with the same crap in basketball but we're a much bigger name in baseball and that lack of respect and the slightest research showed why I rarely watch ESPN anymore anyway. If the Shox or Royals aren't on it I'm probably not paying attention to it. I'll admit that Perez got better about not being quite the homer but I still think having to put up with him and the hack known as Pam Ward was cruel and unusual punishment and I think I'll contact my lawyer.
