Pretty outstanding pitching performance tonight by Zach, Reagan, Chandler and Ben holding the Salukis to only 1 unearned run and 2 hits over 10 innings.

Too bad Willie and Jordan were about the only guys who showed up at the plate tonight for this could have been a bit easier. In any case, if the Shocks are going to have any chance in this tournament they absolutely had to win this 1st game.

Going to bed with a scoreless tie in the sixth between the Bears and Redbirds. The longer Illinois State can hang around, the chances of an upset become more real.
        78-65

IlSU gives up a 2 out walk in the bottom of the 9th. Next batter for MSU ground out to the SS unassisted.

              Final:
              IlSU - 1
              MSU - 0
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Great, great job by our pitchers yesterday. Zach Lewis threw just 86 pitches in his 6.2 IP, which may or may not become relevant at a later date.

What an opportunity we have this evening - gotta seize it.

86 pitches is what that one kid from Arkansas that pitched against us in that regional in 'Fetville' years ago just in the first inning. :) He wound up throwing a couple of hundred over the course of the regional. I think this is when some of our fans coined the moniker for their coach as the "Butcher of Fayyeteville" That really got Charilie upset

Charley Boyce and Brady Toops, ugh. Two names etched in Arkansas lore and Shocker infamy.

Well the door is open. WSU swept ISUR, but games 2 and 3 were competitive (Shox slipped by ISUR in game 3 after 7 run 6th to win 12-7). WSU hitters should have good feeling towards ISUR pitchers as they hit 0.381 (40 for 105) in 3 games.

Wasn't Butler an assistant coach on that Arkansas team?

The door is open!! Let's bust through. Remember, if we beat ISUr the 2 most dangerous remaining teams (SIU, MSU) will have to win twice to earn the right to play us another time the same day they beat ISUr (if we fall to ISUr then we're in a bit of a pickle though.)
Brummett throws, STRUCK HIM OUT! THE SHOCKERS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! AN UNBELIEVABLE STORY!

Really quite a difference between the two early games and the two late games.

                                Combined Totals in Regulation Play:
                                2 Early Games - 41 Runs, 52 Hits, 20 BB/HBP, 12 Errors
                                2 Late Games - 8 Runs, 11 Hits, 15 BB/HBP, 1 Error
