Personally, there is nothing you could do to convince me to hire the hitting coach of a team that was last place in the SEC in hitting for at least 2 consecutive seasons. I'm not sold on HCTB, and I'm even less sold on ADES. Todays rulings with the women's basketball team didn't help my confidence in anybody in the athletic department either
HCTB was recognized nationally as one of the top available coaches in the country when we hired him. Arkansas was last place in the SEC for hitting because they strategically used almost all of their scholarships for pitching.
Besides hoop or standiford who do you think would have been a better get for us?

Well, except for men's basketball of course
Gene even had the nickname "Mean Gene" for awhile.. I still hear people reference it every so often. Gene was fired though cuse the program had grown stale and was in need of a fresh start. Jody Adam's program isn't stale, there's just a lot of drama. I'm sure she will tone it down after this latest round of unwanted attention.
As for Todd Butler, simply got to start winning games. That is all.Last edited by bleed yellow; May 5, 2015, 09:57 PM.

To think a few more wins difference because of the injuries is acceptable would say a lot about the program.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

WSU Baseball
I've been following this thread off and on throughout the season but am generally turned off by so much of the negativity. Let me remind you that it was only 2 yrs ago during Gene's last season as the coach that WSU never won a mid-week game Vs a Big 12 team. In fact, in the regional with KSU at the end of the season, KSU won 19-11. I went to the WSU Alumni Assoc tailgate party last night where MK spoke about the team a bit. He reminded us that WSU has 26 new players on the team plus 8 returnees. They lost their 2 top pitchers in Teves & Schwanke. He also said that Mo State has the best team he has ever seen them put on the field. I mention that because some folks on this board complained a lot that WSU got swept by Mo State last weekend. It makes me wonder if those who said them know anything about the sport of baseball. Baseball is a game that takes a great deal of skill & that is gained by experience. There are no short cuts to getting there. Hitting is one of the most skillful things in all of sports & WSU is starting some frosh. One of the things I enjoy the most about watching any sport is how the new players are developing. I am seeing that. I think Gunnar Troutwine may be the best young catcher WSU has had in years. I like what I'm seeing with frosh, Trey Vickers at SS. He may be potentially a better SS than anyone WSU has had at that positon for several years.
I've seen people make comments on this board that WSU has no future here. Do you really believe that 26 new players are suddenly going to become great in one season? Do you not believe that next year's recruiting class is even better than this one? I believe what Brent Kemnitz told me about it which is that it is better. Did you know that WSU is currently redshirting 5 or 6 frosh including the HS All-American from Manhattan, KS? Btw, this year's team now has 2 wins over Big 12 opponents with the 9-8 win over No 25 ranked OU and then last nights 11-5 win over KSU.

It is imperative that we make significant strides next year. However, I don't think we will be where Shocker fans will be even moderately satisfied until the year after next. And that is assuming that the guys improve and that we aren't too devastated by the MLB draft which is always a crapshoot.

This year was always gonna suck with the way the recruiting classes were staggered. We knew that two years ago. The only surprising thing is the magnitude of the dip. Injuries have no doubt contributed, but this is undeniably worse than expected.
Serious improvement next year is a must or the seat will become white hot. I am still optimistic this hire is going to work but the enthusiasm has cooled with year's performance.
Hopefully we achieve the turnaround. However, if we are still on the outside looking in re: NCAA Regionals in year four of the regime, it will be time to pull the trigger IMO. Hopefully this all becomes a moot point and we can achieve success. We will see.
Edit: I will be renewing my season tickets next year FWIW. While this year's team has been disappointing so far in terms of W-L, they are still showing plenty of fight and effort, moreso than some of the other healthier and deeper squads of the last half dozen years. This is what gives me hope for a turnaround.Last edited by Play Angry; May 6, 2015, 11:12 AM.

WSU Baseball Attendance
I forgot to mention that MK told us at the tailgate party last night that WSU Baseball attendance is the best it's been in 4 years. As for CDrizzle's comments, he is generally one of the one who finds the glass half empty here.
