I don’t get how other teams can be paying that much to baseball players, a sport that has very few fans and produce very little revenue. I get that the kids want full scholarships but is the NIL money really that good? Does this all go back to the market making up for Title 9?

Sorry, I have to ask. Who is Jordy Bahl and what does he do? I have never heard of him.

I get the feeling schools are just doing whatever they want regarding NILs.

It's a business and there's big money to be made, by the Collectives, the schools, the kids. And they will gladly take your money. And as of today, the best players cost the most money and the most likely path to success is to get the best players. It's free agency out there and you can't play if you don't have the money. And we're WAY behind in that area.

Slowly, Shockernet is catching up. I cannot begin to tell you the number of random 3rd party intermediaries, former teammates, etc that blow any kid with quality stats up making all kinds of promises.

What part we should be watching closely is the stories of those who don’t get what they are promised.

Seeing now makes the recruiting Mike Sirianni and Mike Pelphrey did to get kids to Wichita State to be at Wichita State that much more impressive.

Plus for my last year before the draft, I would want a pitching coach who has track record of helping pitchers get to the next level. Not sure we can say that about WSU pitching coach.
This season the top NIL baseball player was Enrique Bradford at about 59g. Its not like football or basketball money

                2) Who look like the top freshmen that will most help this team lacking in upperclassmen?

                3) What newcomers did we NOT retain and how do they compare to the ones still coming on board?

                Thanks in advance.
The DOW 30 industrials will fall 1467.23 between now and December 31, 2023.

That's likely far more accurate than my assessment of this recruiting class.

1)I've been told Holden Pantier is solid. Beyond that I have nothing new.

2)If they all show up, Geraghty & Horn seem to be the diamonds. I think Martin could have stepped in and shared time with Birge but with the return of Mo we should be set at catcher. I really like Arnett but he's a little raw. Doesn't mean he won't help from day 1. Pantier can play, watch and see how he does this summer. Given the current roster, I'd suspect he's starting at SS or 3B. The class appears light on position players, mostly because we were going to be stacked outside of pitching. Coach Green says he expects to be near the top in HBPs. We're going to need it.

                3) As of today, I don't know of any signees we've "lost". BUT I haven't kept close track and I'm not saying we will keep everyone. The thing about incoming freshmen is the schools with the money want to spend money on known quantities. These kids have their scholarships lined up and know what they are (and aren't) going to pay for, where they are going to live etc. Unless you're 1 of a very few kids out there that is a no brainer, it's tough to change last minute. I suspect we'll keep most of the kids, at least until they perform here and then want to gauge the market.

Look, we're going to lose all our studs. We got lucky with Mo (my opinion) and I'm praying we still have a chance with Tolle (but it's really unlikely) but Penny, Brock, Ingram, Grant Adler, Candiotti and Miner are all gone. Add Tolle, Snead & Little (who I can't see coming back) and then Herring, McDonald, Rogers, Stroh, Stark, Gustafson still in the portal (actually think we'll get most of these back, but Herring and McDonald are both the least likely and the most important).

                A lineup that looks like:

                2B Stark
                SS Harris
                C Millan
                CF Stroh
                RF Gustafson
                1B Birge
                3B Pantier
                LF Rogers
                DH Martin

Rotation guys of Mulhollon, Horn, Geraghty with Nate Adler, Wilkinson, Hamilton and Iverson out of the pen will likely garner ever last place preseason vote.

Now, don't get me wrong, I like all of those kids and many have plenty of upside (Siri and Pelf really REALLY recruited well) but there's little to nothing to go on.

If we could somehow get McDonald and Herring back (then we're solid if not really good up the middle) that would go a long way in my opinion of having a decent chance to be competitive.

(And that speculation is pie in the sky best case scenario)

That is with zero additions of our own in the portal, which I cannot imagine will happen.

While I realize it is just newly hired coach speak, Coach Green may want to revisit his comment that this is not a rebuild.

The way the portal and NIL affect things, I may start viewing every year as a rebuilding year. While part of me is happy that athletes can earn some $$$, my personal interest in college athletics is waning. If college sports is going to become "pro ball lite", I might as well just watch the full professionals.

The way NIL was intended was great. The way it's being done is less so.

I feel much the same way. And I don't think we are necessarily on an island in thinking that.

Yes, and not to nitpick, but Whit is a 2024 guy. We're talking about guys showing up this fall.

And now Jaden is confirmed back. Big upside kid with all the tools. Just needs to get better.
