Did I read that right - only one WSU player made the all-star game out of the Walter Johnson league? Was there not many Shocker players playing in it?

        • Can't answer that. I only know the Cannons. Mitch Morman from WSU was with the Cannons for a short time as well but left when he got picked up.

When I reveiwed the summer assignments around the 1st of June Josh Halbert was the only Shocker on a WJL team. (See Page 1, Post #24)

In WJL play Josh has a .330 BA and a .410 OBA with 25 RBI and 27 runs scored in 31 games (124 AB's). He has 15 walks and 17 K's.

            Overall Josh has a .307 BA and a .396 OBA with 27 RBI and 34 runs scored in 39 games (162 AB's). He has 19 walks and 18 K's.

            • Sunshine here -- So, 1972, what you're saying is that every Shocker in the WJL was an all-star, right?

(And that's how you tell me and SB apart.)

                • Casey G. continues to hit well for Eau Claire. He is leading the team with a .327 batting average (among players with 75 or more ABs- he has 162), he is tied for the team lead with 7 home runs, leads the team in rbis at 26 and the leads the team in walks with 22.

                  • Casey continues to have a great summer. His team leading batting average is now at .331, his team leading Home Runs are at 9, team leading walks at 23, and team leading rbis are 29.

He is not only on the all star team in one of the top summer leagues but he will also be participating in the home run derby.

                    • Great news! Kudos to Casey for a solid summer thus far. This now needs to translate to similar production while wearing the black and gold.

                      • Looks like they did decide to shut down AJ Ladwig after a poor start as a teammate of Casey's at Eua Claire.

His last outing was on June 21st. He was 0-4 with a 7.58 ERA. He had 1 good outing and 3 very poor outings.

I think shutting him down was a good thing. Hopefully, he just had a tired arm and is not injured.

                        • Cale Elam is also having a very poor summer for Falmouth in the Cape Cod league. He has pitched 13.1 innings in 11 appearances giving up 23 hits, 13 runs (12 earned) while striking out 7 and walking 2. He has an 8.10 ERA and 1.92 WHIP.

A little worried about Cale. Thought they might shut him down after the way they worked him last year. Hopefully, he is OK and can get straightened out. I would be surprised if they don't shut him down for fall ball.

                          • Kris Gardner having a solid summer for the Hannibal Cavemen in the Prospect League. He is 6-1 in his 7 starts throwing a total of 44.0 innings (just over 6 innings per outing). He has allowed 36 hits, 13 runs (9 earned) with 34 K's and only 7 walks for an ERA of 1.84 and a WHIP of 0.98.

                            • In Alaska Eric Harbutz is hitting 0.261 (23-88) with 3 HRs and 15 RBI for the Matsui Miners. He has struck out 16 times and walked 6 times. His OBP is 0.305 and his OPS 0.737

Micah Green is have a similar summer for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. He is hitting 0.259 (22-85) with 1 HR and 11 RBI. He has struck out 19 times and has walked 11 times and also has been HBP 4 times. His OBP is 0.318 and his OPS is 0.735. Micah has stolen 11 bases which has not seemed to be a strength for his as a Shocker.

Bob Arens, also with Matsui, is below the Mendoza line at 0.186 (8-43). Nuff said.

I thought Foster Vielock was supposed to pitch for Matsui this summer but I don't see him in thier stats nor in any of the ABL stats. Could be he/coaches decided to rest his arm over the summer.

                              • Josh Halbert is hitting 0.310(45-145) with no HRs, 28 RBI and 36 RS for the Kansas Cannons in the Walter Johnson League. His OBP is 0.402 and his OPS is 0.789

Not sure the WJL is quite at the level that the Nothwoods, Prospect and Alaska leagues are talent-wise.
