I haven't read this thread, but is there anyone out there that thinks keeping gene is the best thing for the program? I went from angry fan to apathetic fan years ago. I know apathy is the last thing you want out of your fan base, but i truly don't really care about shocker baseball anymore. I look at the baseball scores to see how we did but until we get some fresh blood in the program, i don't really card what happens.

1) Offer Gene a 200k, one year rolling contract with the understanding that he:
A) Fire JT
B) Hire an Associate Head Coach
He won't take it, but ADES won't be the guy who fired Gene, and everyone can move on."Don't measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should accomplish with your ability."

Does anybody think that if Gene were fired that maybe one of his ex players, like a Hooper or Standiford, might not take the job if offered, because of a loyalty they feel towards him? I don't know just something that came to mind. I hear a lot of ex players speak very highly about Gene, so it makes me wonder if there would be some hesitation there.THERE ARE FLOCKS OF BIRDS AND MANY A CAT ------ BUT ONLY ONE WUSHOCK!

I understand Gene is the head coach but it seems like many people give Brent a pass. Our hitting so far this year hasn't been bad, not great by any means but there at least some hope with different people contributing. Our pitching is just TERRIBLE. We have scored 12 runs on 21 hits (averaging 10.5 hits/game and 6 runs/game) and have hit a double, triple and 2 HRs so far. Our pitching has given up 16 runs on 31 hits!!!! What is even worse, is every time we start to score runs and get back into the game or tie it we promptly go out and give up more runs. I thought our pitching staff was going to be the strong point this year???

I get the feeling Gene, Brent and JT see the writing on the wall and I think they are simply content to play out the string and cash their paychecks for two more seasons and then let the chips fall where they may. Gene can retire. Maybe give motivational speeches or something. Brent will land on his feet somewhere. JT may have to find a real job. I wonder if Gene or Brent really care that much about what happens to the WSU program once they are gone.

I'm not giving anyone a pass. Time for the entire staff to go, clean house. Get someone in here that knows how to win with "todays" players. I always here Gene say players are not the same today. Well to me that is admission that he can't coach today's players and since we don't have a time machine therefore he can't coach today.

When compared to all other college programs, our offense has dropped since 1999 (and before, when it was top flight) to average or below average. This has nothing to do with the bats as all programs faced the same issue. The question was "How long before the lack of offensive help would drive pitchers away?" Future quality pitchers will see over time that our staff is not getting anything close to comparable quality support from the offense. Would you always want to be under the pressure of feeling you had to shutout other quality teams to have a chance of winning?
Why our coaching staff has allowed this decline in the offense to happen is baffling. Quality, deep pitching staffs are a premium asset and much harder to assemble than a reasonably quailty offense. The type of staffs we continued to have into the 2000s should have been an attraction to quality hitters who would know that most of the pressure would not be on them as it is with most teams who only have one, maybe two, top notch pitchers. That with the quality pitching staff in place, the addition of quality bats would lead to championships, regionals, and CWS. To me, there was only two possible explanations for this offensive decline. 1) While quality pitchers still came because of BK, the coaching staff didn't want to work harder than that to get quality hitters or 2) Hitters simply didn't want to play for Krusty and company.

I've had a change of heart from last year regarding BK.
BK gets NO pass. He's the large part of the cancer that rips through the team. BK is the cancer, and JT is simply incompetent. HCGS has been loyal to both of them, and they are crapping all over the GS legacy. If BK or JT had any scruples, they'd quit and protect their boss and the program.
This is an organizational management issue; not a coaching issue. GS is too loyal to fire his assistants. ADES needs to grab the bull by the horns and enforce the termination of the assistant coaches as it continues to harm the GS legacy and the baseball program.
