WSU has taken risk with their non-conference schedule - and they have taken some hits, but not a critical hit. The Purdue split is big for WSU. But the rest of the MVC outside of ISUB has scheduled soft and pretty much are just relying on winning the auto bid. Here are the SOS to this point with Top 50 records.

    ISUB- 234 (2-3 vs Top 50)
    ISUR - 170 (0-1 top 50)
    MSU - 128 (0-1 top 50)
    EU - 219 (0-0 Top 50)
    BU - 181 (0-2 top 50)
    CU - 207 (0-0 Top 50)
    SIU - 192 (0-0 Top 50)
    WSU - 20 (2-4 Top 50)

Are you kidding me? The rest of the mo valley SOS is horrible. If this were basketball everyone would be up in arms about those SOS. That is pathetic. Check your PM

It always is in baseball. This is actually a lot better than it normally is. Northern schools have a big disadvantage in baseball. Having said that, WSU is finding a way to get a good SOS in baseball.

Indy St beat Missouri 15-1 today and the Valley moved up to the #8 conference in rpi. That is 12 straight wins for the Sycamores. I am starting to get a little bit worried about these guys. We play them at Terre Huete this year.

The Shox rpi is at #35 today. The entire conference is at #149 or better (Cu is at #149- LOL).

It looks like Indiana State has played a relatively easy schedule but a 12 game winning streak is impressive against anyone. They started the season 0-3 and have gone 17-1 since then.

Besides totally pounding Missouri, the streak does include 2 wins over Notre Dame and a win over KU (but even North Dakota beat KU this year).

Normally most of the Valley schools non-conference schedule consists of playing schools that are a short bus ride away.

For most of them that means playing a lot games against Illinois, Missouri and Indiana directional schools that are not very good in baseball. The big non-conference games tend to be against nearby big 10 schools like Indiana and Illinois which also aren't usually very good in baseball.

It all adds up to poor Strength of Schedules and poor RPIs.

I didn't think of the financial aspect of the other schools and the fact that they don't give baseball any more than they have too. That would put a damper on traveling to anywhere south and better rpi's.

Losing at home penalizes you a lot more in the RPI calculations correct?

Yes it does. I believe in baseball it is 1.3 for a loss and .7 for a win at home.

The Valley is still remaining at #7 in the conference rpi. MoST has improved to #33, Indy St is at #52, Illinois St. #73, WSU #91, UE #105, SIU #123 (this weekends opponent), Bradley #149, and Cu is still last @#156.

How are those at-large prospects holding up?
                          Deuces Valley.
                          ... No really, deuces.

And 4 days later after we go 1-2 against a good Long Beach St. team our RPI drops to the 90s. This is why I said it is too early to be quoting RPIs. The numbers are just too fluid right now. It doesn't take much for them to take big swings.

The Shox just need to string together some wins. If the team can get on a winning streak we will be fine. If not, we will have to win the conference tournament to get into the ncaas.

This team will not get an at-large bid no way, no how. I take that back, if we go undefeated from now until the end of the regular season, then maybe. Otherwise, the MVC Tourney is the only chance this program has plain and simple.

#259 UNO (University of Nebraska-Omaha) a provisional division 1 school beat Cu tonight 3-2. Cu has now lost to both UNO and North Dakota. No wonder they got swept by MoST this weekend.
